Job description

Full-time, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama insurance for medical, prescription, dental, and vision. Vacation, holidays, and sick leave. State Retirement. The purpose of this position is to repair, installation, modification, and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment under general supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions

  1. Understanding and application of blueprints and technical diagrams.
  2. Installation and maintenance of wiring, control, lighting systems, and fire alarm systems.
  3. Inspect electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  4. Diagnose electrical problems using a variety of testing devices such as multimeters and ohmmeters.
  5. Direct the repair or replacement of wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  6. Ensure adherence to state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
  7. Manage work orders and scheduled maintenance using Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) (current software is FMX Work Order & Asset Management).
  8. Coordinate availability for night or weekend work on a rotating basis to address emergency needs of customers.
  9. Meet with customers and contractors to discuss requirements for new installations or modifications to current installations.
  10. Provide guidance and training to junior electricians and apprentices.

The above duties reflect the general responsibilities necessary to describe the principal work functions of the job and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements that may be in the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to junior electricians and apprentices.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required/Preferred Education

  • Education: Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Preferred: Valid Journeyman Electrical License from Alabama or a reciprocal state.

Required/Preferred Experience

  • 2-5 years of experience in the field working under a Licensed Master Electrician is required.
  • Experience in a lead role is preferred.
  • Computer Experience: Must possess knowledge of Windows-based operating systems, including some basic associated software applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings on and off-site.
  • Carrying and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending, kneeling, and reaching to access all areas of the Rocket Center.
  • Sight, reading, wrist movement, and feeling to operate computer terminal, handle documents, operate automobile for travel, and interact with vendors.
  • Talking and hearing to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and guests in person and over the telephone.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Working environment is both inside and outside.

Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time position with potential for night or weekend shifts on a rotating basis.
