Job description

Overview

Shriners Children’s Northern California is seeking a full-time pediatric hand surgeon to join our team. Candidates should be board certified/eligible in orthopedic surgery and have successfully completed a fellowship in hand & upper extremity surgery. Successful candidates should have significant experience and interest in caring for pediatric patients, and ideally a special interest in those with brachial plexus birth injuries.

  • This surgeon will work primarily at Shriners Children’s Hospital Northern California (SCHNC), with academic affiliation and possible clinical duties at University of California at Davis (UCD) Medical Center.
  • Our upper extremity services include the care of congenital malformations, brachial plexus birth palsy, fractures and soft tissue injuries, post-traumatic deformities, and surgical reconstruction for children with upper extremity cerebral palsy, tetraplegia, and burns.
  • Our hand service is supported by a care manager, a physician assistant, and a team of occupational and hand therapists.
  • Regionally, SCHNC and UCD health systems bring multiple specialists together to support the treatment for complex pediatric hand.
  • Opportunities exist to work with annually with Hand Surgery fellows from 2 training programs, in addition to a Pediatric Hand and Upper Extremity Fellow at SCHNC, orthopedic residents from 3 training programs, plastic surgery residents from UCD, and medical students.

The pay range for this position is $508,948-$771,855. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.


Responsibilities

  • Patient care at Shriners Children’s Hospital Northern California
  • Schedule is Monday through Friday days with expectations for 5 nights and 2 weekends coverage per quarter.
  • Fulfill the tripartite mission of Shriners Hospitals
    • Excellence in patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings and in the operating room
    • Excellence in research by performing scholarly clinical and/or translational research, presenting and publishing research findings, and obtaining intramural and extramural funding for research
    • Excellence in education by supervising and teaching students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Must have successfully completed an ACGME accredited orthopedic surgery residency program
  • Must be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS) or in final year of ACGME accredited program leading to certification and eligible for or in possession of Subspecialty Certification (SC) if appropriate
  • Must have completed relevant fellowship training in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery
  • Must possess or be eligible for California state medical license
  • Experience treating pediatric hand patients, particularly brachial plexus birth injuries
