The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a Research Associate that will work with multi-modal data, acquired on humans with non-invasive optical, electrical, and ultrasound instruments, requires recruitment of human subjects. This position is meant to design, validate, and test on human subjects a novel NIRS sensor that allows for freely moving subjects. Optical sensing of the brain can be achieved by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) systems. In order to achieve long term, every day measurements, a battery operated, flexible device is needed.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for data collection

  • Responsible designing instrumentation

  • Responsible for data analysis

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • College degree in a STEM field

  • Has performed research in a biomedical lab for at least 1 summer or worked on human subject measurements, engineering design of optical systems, and data analysis.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
