We are looking for candidates at the rank of Teaching Associate to teach a subset of the Introductory series labs (Biology 180 Introductory Evolution and Ecology, Biology 200 Introductory Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Biology 220 Introductory Physiology) which may vary quarter-by-quarter. The initial appointment will be for teaching in one of these courses during Autumn quarter with a chance for renewal to the end of the academic year (15 June) pending satisfactory performance reviews. The successful candidate will benefit from interactions with faculty in the Department of Biology whose research areas include biology education, ecology, evolution, molecular, cellular, physiological biology.
Teaching Associates will teach undergraduate biology labs in conjunction with a large lecture course each quarter. Associates teach 6x 3-hour labs per week and work closely to support the 144 students (generally STEM majors) in those labs each quarter. The overall team of Associates rotates between these three courses each quarter to best mediate changing enrollments and their own interest areas. Teaching Associates in Introductory Biology work with the large teaching team for their course as well as the greater Instructional Support side of the department.
The duties for this position include:
Teaching weekly labs, including

Meeting weekly with the teaching team under the direction of the Course Coordinator to learn lab teaching specifics for the week, give feedback, learn upcoming lab exercises, and practice teaching skills.
This opportunity will be open until filled, however equal first priority will be given to complete applications. Continuation beyond the first quarter is conditional on satisfactory performance reviews.
The salary range for this position is $5,597 - $5700 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Appointments of candidates holding only a bachelors degree will occur at the lower end of the salary range.
Questions that are not answered in this Ad can be addressed to search coordinator Sara Berk at saraberk@uw.edu for direction to the applicable faculty for answer.

Position requires minimum of bachelor's degree in a life science discipline.
Application Instructions
Application requires submission of:
