HOURS:

Available between 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday Hours subject to change as required / may not be the actual work schedule.


RESPONSIBLE TO:

Training Manager


POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist with the daily operations of driver training instructional programs offered by The CDL Schools, LLC., by being responsible for instruction, safety and other duties as required.


DEPENDABILITY:

Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings/weekends as required by responsibilities and school schedule. Must be able to attend and participate in meetings/conferences as scheduled within the district, state, and other states.


MAJOR JOB DUTIES:

Maintain current Class A license

Maintain accurate student attendance records.

Maintain accurate student progress records.

Maintain classroom in a neat and orderly manner.

Assure that effective teaching concepts are utilized.

Coordinate and plan for daily instruction, ensuring proper utilization of equipment and students.

Present instruction in a professional, timely and accurate manner, consistent with school standards, operating procedures, and curriculum guidelines.

Be prepared to instruct, supervise and monitor student actions in all phases of training and insure students' compliance with program policy.

Insure all instructional materials are appropriate for program taught and relay recommendations for change to immediate supervisor.

Evaluate students daily, make formal evaluations on a regular schedule by utilizing appropriate academic and skills tests.

Document any student problems and maintain in student file.

Serve as a "Role Model" to the student as to dress, conduct and attitude.

Participate in professional organizations and attend meetings.

Must maintain all certifications as required by Director.

Participate in staff meetings, in-service education, and selected professional growth meetings, training and activities.

Perform such duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be required to accomplish the essential job functions as directed by the Director or Chief Program Instructor.


PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

Must meet all standards under FMCSR Part 391 - Qualifications of Drivers and Part 382 - Controlled substances and Alcohol Use & Testing.

Ability to routinely enter and exit vehicle requiring steps.

Ability to lifting, handling and carrying such articles as books, manuals, files, chains, binders and equipment utilized in the instruction of commercial vehicle operators, weighing 30 pounds.

Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in driving over-the-road, diesel-powered 8 commercial vehicles to include straight-line backing, offset parking, alley-docking, and parallel parking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend varied and extensive written documents, regulations and reference materials.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to utilize computer/tablets in daily operations.
  • Ability to teach CDL students to pass vehicle inspection, BSL testing, and over-the-road driving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge and skill to conduct after action reviews of training.
  • Identify and report vehicle maintenance deficiencies.
  • Conduct minor maintenance repairs.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required

CERTIFICATION:

  • Current CDL A

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 6 months verifiable driving experience, or as required by state licensing agencies. Military experience may be considered as experience.
