Position Title
Controls Logic Engineer – CNC & PLC Systems

Position Summary
The Controls Logic Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, and supporting CNC and PLC-based control systems for large-scale machine tools. This role works hands-on across platforms such as Siemens, Beckhoff, and Fanuc, developing reliable and optimized control logic from concept through commissioning. The position includes system integration, debugging, and field support, with exposure to advanced manufacturing environments and complex automation systems. This role requires collaboration with engineering teams and offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact, custom-built equipment across global customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, debug, and modify control software for CNC and PLC-based machine systems
  • Develop and maintain software across multiple control platforms (Siemens, Beckhoff, Fanuc)
  • Integrate control logic with electrical systems, sensors, actuators, and motion systems
  • Conduct simulations, validation testing, and system performance optimization
  • Generate technical documentation including code structure, interface definitions, and user manuals
  • Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of systems at customer sites
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in both development and field environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-quality control solutions
  • Ensure systems meet quality, safety, and performance standards
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and production processes
  • Support project timelines and deliverables in a fast-paced advanced manufacturing environment

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC programming platforms such as Siemens, Fanuc, or Beckhoff
  • Strong mathematical foundation (vectors, 3D geometry, transformations)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Experience with HMI development and integration
  • Understanding of full product lifecycle development from concept through customer support
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in controls, automation, or related field
  • Willingness to travel for commissioning and onsite support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with database systems and SQL
  • Familiarity with robotic systems (ABB, KUKA)
  • Exposure to IIoT / Industry 4.0 technologies
  • Experience with LabVIEW
  • Knowledge of laser scanners, laser trackers, and precision measurement systems
  • Familiarity with safety systems (SIL, risk assessment)
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming
  • Proficiency or exposure to high-level programming languages (C, C++, C#, Python)
  • Experience with large-scale machine tools, additive manufacturing, or composite systems
  • Familiarity with aerospace, defense, or heavy industrial manufacturing standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems under time constraints

Compensation & Location

  • Rockford, IL
  • Salary $70,000 - $103,000
    • $200 p/day per diem while traveling
