Location: Berkeley, CA
We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our team and bridge the gap between complex subsystem designs and high-level product architecture. You will be responsible for defining the technical requirements, interfaces, and integration strategies that ensure our large-scale energy storage systems operate reliably and safely. This role requires a holistic mindset, strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing), and a drive to solve tough technical challenges in service of our clean energy mission.
Responsibilities
Define and manage system-level requirements, functional specifications, and interface control documents for core battery system architecture.
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to ensure subsystem designs are seamlessly integrated and meet performance targets.
Lead system-level validation and integration testing, developing test plans that verify safety, reliability, and functionality under diverse operating conditions.
Perform trade-off analyses to optimize system performance, cost, and manufacturability, identifying potential risks early in the development lifecycle.
Conduct root cause analysis for complex system-level failures, working cross-functionally to implement effective engineering solutions.
Decompose requirements and functions from system-level down to component-level, ensuring traceability.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent) with 3+ years of professional experience.
Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, interface definition, and lifecycle development.
Experience in multidisciplinary integration, preferably in power electronics, battery systems, or large-scale electro-mechanical hardware.
Proficiency with electrical battery systems.
Proficiency with technical modeling and documentation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, SysML, or similar) to manage system architecture and performance data.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge communication gaps between specialized engineering domains and non-technical stakeholders.
Salary Range
$115,000-130,000
The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate's combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience
