Job description

Job Summary
This position will serve as the coordinator and instructor of the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Life Support (PALS) courses for Mon Health Medical Center.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain MHMC status as an American Heart Association Training Center for all levels of AHA certification.

  • Responsible for the scheduling, coordination, design, and implementation of AHA courses.

  • Maintains appropriate records as required to be a training center with the AHA.

  • Provides updates to the training network with current information on AHA courses, science guidelines, policies, and procedures.

  • Maintain adequate course equipment and supplies.

  • Responsible for quality assurance and improvement; Ensures instructors are monitored yearly by Training Center Faculty.

  • Reserve and prepare rooms for all classes.

  • Reporting: Submits all training reports as required and requested.

  • Maintains AHA instructor files to make sure provider and teaching cards are current.

  • Issues instructor cards once verified that AHA instructor requirements have been met.

  • Ensure MHMC is compliant with AHA policies and procedures.

  • Maintain and order sufficient books for classes and assures current versions per AHA.

  • Serve as the AHA Training Center Coordinator as applicable.

  • Serve as an instructor for all Heartsaver First Aid, BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses according to the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

  • Distributes AHA cards to participants.

  • Coordinates in AHA site reviews.

  • Maintains internal records of completed classes, rosters, and enters information in the hospital database.

  • Maintains all course records on the AHA site.

  • Maintains all BLS, ACLS, PALS Instructor records on the AHA site.

  • Assist with training of new Heart saver, BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructors.

  • Monitors all BLS, ACLS, and PALS instructors.

  • Maintains all life support training equipment per AHA guidelines.

  • Completes cleaning of equipment per AHA guidelines/hospital policy.

  • Demonstrates positive customer service and co-worker relations.

  • Comply with MHMC attendance policy.

  • Perform work in a cost-effective manner.

  • Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.

  • Assists with other related tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable.

  • Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and unit/department specific checklist.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must have current BLS and ACLS instructor status; PALS instructor status within 12 months of employment. Some travel may be required to other MHS hospitals. Driver's license required.
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 50 lbs. Must be able to perform all BLS, ACLS, and PALS skills for demonstration as needed.
Education
