We are seeking a highly skilled Instructional Systems Design (ISD) Specialist with demonstrated experience in both Department of Defense (DoD) instructional design methodologies and civilian-sector learning approaches (e.g., higher education and corporate training). The ideal candidate will bring a blended perspective of military training rigor and modern instructional best practices to create high-impact, learner-centered training solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply the full ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to develop instructional materials for all learning modalities.
  • Conduct training needs assessments and job/task analyses to support mission-aligned curriculum development.
  • Design and develop curriculum aligned with military standards and SCORM/xAPI compliance.
  • Integrate modern civilian learning theories and strategies including active learning, flipped classroom, adaptive learning, and microlearning.
  • Collaborate with SMEs, instructors, and stakeholders to produce engaging and instructionally sound courseware.
  • Develop performance-based learning objectives, lesson plans, assessments, and evaluation instruments that align with Bloom's Taxonomy and mission-specific outcomes.
  • Incorporate instructional technologies and media (e.g., LMSs, simulations, AR/VR, and multimedia assets) to enhance learner engagement and retention.
  • Participate in instructional design quality assurance, peer reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support sustainment efforts including curriculum updates, revisions, and incorporation of new learning technologies or feedback.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Training and Development, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in instructional systems design, including at least 2 years supporting DoD training programs.
  • Working knowledge of DoD training standards, policies, and systems (e.g., JKO, Blackboard, ADL guidelines, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience applying civilian instructional design practices in university or corporate training environments.
  • Proficiency with instructional authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite) and learning management systems.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and SCORM 1.2/xAPI compliance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • TS/SCI with SAP eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on government contracts or within a defense training environment.
  • Knowledge of Agile or SAM (Successive Approximation Model) for iterative course development.
  • Experience with data-informed instructional strategies and learning analytics.
  • Firm grasp and desire to learn emerging digital learning tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of learning developers and faculty
  • Models continual improvement and demonstrates lifelong learning
  • Prior experience teaching is a plus!
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communications, Technology, Psychology, Media Production, or a related field
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense
  • Proficiency in building and maintaining good working relationships with subject matter experts

In accordance with Colorado Equal Pay Act the target range for this position is $110,000 - $125,000.
