Starting pay is $18-$23 per hour with scheduled increases at the 6-month and 12-month marks.  All apprentices are provided with a complete set of tools (valued at $8,000) to use during their training and are eligible to keep them after two years of employment.  This is a full-time entry level position which allows for advancement through the Yancey career development program after completion.

About the Accelerated Apprenticeship Program:
  • 4 months of instructor-led training with a group of up to six trainees, followed by a structured mentorship program through your first year of employment.
  • Follow an outline of class material, hands-on training, and process / procedure experiences under the supervision of your instructor to prepare you for a career as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician.
  • Includes a structured task / accomplishment check-in cycle.
About the Ride-Along Apprenticeship Program:
  • 12-months of one-on-one training; 6-months with a designated field service technician as your mentor, and 6-months in a shop environment.
  • Attend five facilitated classes covering: engines, hydraulics, electrical, preventative maintenance, and air conditioning certification.
  • Work with your mentor to complete hands-on training and process / procedure experiences to prepare you for a career as a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician.
Education/Experience:
  • The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Meet Yancey employment requirements. All mechanical testing, background checks, driving record checks and drug screening will be conducted.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
  • Previous mechanical experience.
Environmental Job Requirements:
Environment:

Who We Are Looking For:

To be successful in this position you should have basic mechanical aptitude and a desire to work in the Heavy Equipment industry as a technician.  You should have the drive to learn a new set of skills and be safety conscious.  The ability to multitask, problem solve, and provide superior customer service are essential to this position as well.
