We are seeking an experienced Mid-Level Database Administrator to join our team in the Washington, D.C. area. The
ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise in both MySQL and PostgreSQL database environments, AWS cloud
infrastructure, and modern DevSecOps practices. This role blends traditional DBA responsibilities with active
development, CI/CD pipeline integration, and a security-first mindset. You will be responsible for designing,
developing, and managing production-grade database systems while collaborating closely with software engineering
and DevOps teams.
General Experience
• 6+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator and/or Database Developer
• Proven track record designing, developing, and managing relational database systems in production environments
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional engineering teams
• Demonstrated ability to balance database administration duties with active code development responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, develop, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL database schemas, stored procedures, functions, views,
and triggers
• Manage and optimize AWS RDS instances - monitoring performance, applying patches, managing backups, and
ensuring high availability
• Own and maintain Liquibase changelogs and execute controlled database migrations across Dev, QA, Staging,
and Production environments
• Integrate database deployment workflows into CI/CD pipelines ensuring automated, repeatable, and auditable
releases
• Enforce DevSecOps best practices - implement database security controls, conduct periodic access reviews, and
support compliance audits
• Collaborate with software developers to review ORM models, optimize slow queries, and support application
database requirements
• Monitor database health using AWS CloudWatch and custom alerting; respond to and resolve incidents
• Manage database user accounts, roles, and permissions following least-privilege principles
• Develop and maintain documentation for database architecture, runbooks, and operational procedures
• Participate in on-call rotation for database-related production incidents
• Conduct capacity planning and proactively address storage, performance, and scalability concerns

• Exposure to data warehousing concepts or AWS Redshift
