Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding full-time teaching roles in AP Computer ScienceLooking for part-time or flexible teaching options

Full Time AP Computer Science roles involve teaching or preparing students in a full-time setting, often with a structured schedule and classroom environment. Part Time AP Computer Science positions offer more flexible hours, suitable for educators or tutors seeking part-time work. Both roles require similar credentials but differ mainly in scheduling and work environment.

Is computer science dead due to AI?

Computer science remains a vital field for full-time AP computer science roles, as AI advances create new opportunities for software development, data analysis, and algorithm design. Professionals with programming skills, understanding of AI tools, and problem-solving abilities continue to be in demand across industries. AI complements rather than replaces core computer science skills, making the field still relevant for job seekers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full-Time AP Computer Science Teacher, and why are they important?

To excel as a Full-Time AP Computer Science Teacher, you need a solid background in computer science principles, programming languages (such as Java), and typically a teaching credential or relevant degree. Familiarity with AP curriculum frameworks, learning management systems, and grading platforms is essential. Strong communication, classroom management, and the ability to inspire and engage students are vital soft skills for this role. These skills ensure effective teaching, student success on AP exams, and a supportive learning environment.

Is AP Computer Science useful?

AP Computer Science provides foundational programming skills and understanding of algorithms, which are valuable for many technology-related jobs, including full-time computer science roles. It can also help students earn college credit and strengthen their resumes for entry-level positions in software development, data analysis, and IT. However, practical experience and additional skills are often necessary for advanced roles.

Job description

Scientist I - Computation through Dynamics
The neural dynamics accelerator at Allen Institute (a/ND) is focused on foundational neuroscience. We are interested in how the brain builds our understanding of the complex world to guide the flexible behaviors that address our biological needs. The answers will be in terms of the algorithms implemented by circuits interacting across the whole brain and body. We develop experimental and theoretical methods and employ a team-based approach for discovery neuroscience. Knowledge, data, models, and tools will be widely shared, in part to support the development of therapies for brain disorders.
a/ND is seeking a Scientist to lead the analysis of large-scale neural population recordings collected during flexible decision-making tasks. These datasets include spike trains from thousands of neurons recorded simultaneously across multiple brain regions, providing a unique opportunity to uncover how distributed neural circuits support adaptive behavior. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented, have deep knowledge in neuroscience and statistics, and be excited to work at the interface of large-scale physiology, behavior, and theory. This position will require good communication with experimentalists leveraging state-of-the-art behavioral, computational, electrophysiological, and imaging methods, as well as molecular and transgenic resources. The goal is to make fundamental discoveries about multi-regional neural computation for continuous learning and flexible behaviors, and to generate insights that inform downstream computational modeling work and new experiments.
At the Allen Institute, we believe that science is for everyone - and should be open to everyone. We are dedicated to combating biases and reducing barriers to STEM careers more broadly. We also believe that science is better when it includes different perspectives and voices. We strive to make the Allen Institute a place where everyone feels like they belong and are empowered to do their best work in a supportive environment.
We are an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for our open positions.
This position is full-time and of a limited duration, with an expected end date of February 1, 2030.
