Job description


Sun River Health provides the highest quality of comprehensive primary, preventative and behavioral health services to all who seek it, regardless of insurance status and ability to pay, especially for the underserved and vulnerable. Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County.
We are seeking a full-time WIC Nutrition Assistant to join our Monticello, NY site.
Under the direction of the WIC site supervisor, this paraprofessional assists in the delivery of the nutritional care and/or education to clients participating in the WIC program in all sites, excluding high-risk clients. Training by the local agency must be completed prior to performance of duties. Performs job duties in compliance with systems and job specific standards.
Essential Functions:
  • Issues Farmers' Market benefits to participants
  • Maintains training log and accumulates adequate number of continuing education credits annually
  • Correctly identifies and promotes the primary WIC services (nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support), referrals to health and social services and the WIC food packages.
  • Verifies and documents calibration of anthropometric equipment and hematology log.
  • Successfully conducts all duties of the WIC Clerk as needed including but not limited to scheduling, orientation, VOC's and verification and completion of income eligibility
  • Comprehends all policies related to role including participant centered services, income, nutritionist assistant competencies, anthropometry and hematology.
  • Provides excellent customer service using participant centered techniques such as introducing self and role, explaining what to expect during the appointment and greeting participants by name.
  • Accurately obtains the height and weight measurements and hemoglobin values for all WIC eligible participants and follows the required procedures.
  • Participates in nutrition and breastfeeding promotion and outreach activities
  • Complies with local agency, WIC program and sponsoring agency written policies and protocols related to professionalism, absenteeism, integrity and other work ethics.
  • Ensures notes in management systems are timely, legible, accurate and professional in nature.
  • Works collaboratively with Qualified Nutritionist and accurately articulates information based on participant needs, interest and concerns
  • Balances multiple responsibilities including administrative tasks, WIC certifications, assisting with reports data and clinic flow
  • Participates in site inventory process
  • Responds to management direction and program changes.

Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required
NYS LPN License Preferred
Associate's in Nutrition preferred
CPR/BLS required
