Job description

As a Site Civil Engineer, you will be a key member of the Ground Systems development team responsible for ground station site design for the Leo Ground Gateway and Telemetry, Tracking, and Control (TT&C) Sites. Leo Ground Gateways are used to ensure high data rate transmissions to and from our satellites and ensuring our customers are delighted by our service. Leo TT&C systems are used to transmit and receive satellite command and control data in support of mission critical launch and early operation periods. Terminals include both state of art tracking antennas and innovative supporting systems.
Key job responsibilities
In this role you will:
• Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers for design engineering and build-out of ground gateway sites
• Own organization and processes to track program/project deliverables
• Create workarounds and solutions to remove roadblocks
• Review comprehensive design packages for antenna field, site civil and overall infrastructure layouts for compliance with specifications
• Review contractor site documentation including vendor submittals and test reports for contract compliance
• Identify and communicate issues, risks and dependencies to the internal engineering team.
• Influence backlog prioritizing and manage escalations
• Write status reports for project health and updates
• Maintain record of as-built infrastructure drawings
• Support site build-outs and maintain management of change documentation
• Verify as-built technical compliance and support acceptance testing
• Travel to construction sites, as required
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
In the role of Site Civil Engineer, you will conduct weekly meetings with engineering consultants and construction vendors. You will provide technical oversight in the development and review of civil and antenna field drawing sets, review analyses, and oversee infrastructure acceptance testing at the completion of site upgrades. You will also work with and be a part of an experienced cross-disciplinary team responsible for the deployment of a global network of ground gateway stations that support the LEO constellation and enable high throughput communication for Amazon customers.
About the team
The Ground Systems team is responsible for the architecture, design, build, and installation of Leo's Ground and TT&C Gateways. Our Ground Gateways enable high data rate, low latency communications between Leo Points of Presence and our Low Earth Orbit Satellite constellation. TT&C Gateways support satellite Launch and Early Orbit enabling command and control of the satellites during this critical phase. The team works closely with the Networks, Regulatory, Payload Test, and RF Systems teams to ensure Leo provides a seamless customer experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or above in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil/site engineering and design
- Documented experience with foundation design, geotechnical engineering, grading and drainage, utilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ground Gateway (teleport) or data center design and/or construction experience
- Ability to interpret geotechnical reports and design infrastructure including foundations in various climates accordingly
- Strong sense of ethics and ability to work collaboratively as a member of a highly motivated team who insists on the highest standards and deliver systems which delight customers
- Master's Degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural analysis or geotechnical engineering
- Experience with analysis software (MathCAD, STAAD, RAM, Visual Analysis, HiltiProfis Engineering Suite, etc.)
- Licensed professional engineer
- Knowledge of CAD tools, such as AutoCAD and Revit
- Ability to read, interpret and apply codes and standards to design
- Familiarity with interpreting international building codes and past design experience with IBC 2021
- Field and international experience dealing with various standards, construction regulations, and bylaws
- Understanding of codes and regulatory requirements for design
- Understanding of steel, concrete, and masonry design practices in various climate zones
- Ability to produce complete construction drawings and documents with little oversight
- Familiarity with SmartSheet and managing contractors and vendors within the designated software mediums
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
