Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design or related educational field, or graduate coursework in Education, Instructional Design, or Instructional Technology.
  • Experience with course building in a Learning Management System
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 guidelines or Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, assistive technology such as: screen readers and screen magnifiers such as JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, Fusion/ZoomText; WAVE and/or aXe web accessibility evaluators, color contrast analyzers, Canvas, captioning software

Duties and Responsibilities
Reformat presentations, documents, and PDFs to meet accessibility standards, including applying proper slide layouts, reading order, alt text for images and graphics, meaningful hyperlink text, and sufficient color contrast.Generate, edit, and synchronize accurate closed captions and audio description for instructional videos using captioning tools and platforms (e.g., Canvas Studio, Adobe Premiere).Review and correct auto-generated captions for accuracy, proper punctuation, speaker identification, and readability.Create descriptive transcripts for videos and audio content using AI-assisted tools, ensuring transcripts convey not only spoken dialogue but also relevant visual information, on-screen text, and meaningful sound cues.Convert mathematical equations and scientific notation into accessible formats using LaTeX syntax within Canvas's built-in equation editor.Conduct accessibility audits of course content in Canvas LMS, identifying and prioritizing items for remediation.Maintain accurate records of accessibility remediation work, including course, file type, issue identified, and resolution.Stay current with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1, Section 508, and relevant university policies.Communicate remediation progress and outstanding issues to the instructional design team lead.Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of accessibility workflows and documentation

  • Once fully trained, this position may be eligible to telework under the currently approved plan at the direction of leadership.

Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.
However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.
