The Department of Enterprise Services (DES) is hiring a Golf Course Superintendent II to plan, direct, and oversee the operations, improvements, development, and maintenance of the Ala Wai Course.
What You Will Do:
  • Manage Daily Operations of Ala Wai Golf Course - Oversee all aspects of running an 18-hole, 150-acre municipal golf course, including policies, revenue collection, customer operations, and facility upkeep.
  • Lead Course Maintenance & Improvement - Direct maintenance crews, monitor turf health, oversee chemical/fertilizer use, and manage reconstruction or renovation of tees, greens, and bunkers.
  • Budget & Purchasing Oversight - Manage operating budget, ensure proper expenditures, handle purchasing of supplies/equipment, and support revenue generation.
  • Supervise Staff & Contractors - Handle hiring, scheduling, evaluations, discipline, and oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with plans/specs.
  • Steward Safety, Customer Experience & Course Standards - Maintain course conditions, enforce rules of play, manage the reservation/POS system, and ensure a safe, high-quality experience for 167,000+ annual rounds.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of supervisory experience in golf course maintenance and/or operations activities.
Applicable Skills Needed
  • Knowledge of golf course administration, course layout and operations, and technical practices used to maintain and improve greens, fairways, and grounds.
  • Ability to plan, organize, assign, and review the work of staff involved in golf course operations, maintenance, and improvement projects.
  • Ability to prepare budget estimates, conduct operational studies, and prepare reports related to golf course programs and operations.
  • Ability to build interest among golfers and prospective golfers, provide clear instructions, and interact tactfully and effectively with the public.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Valid driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
