Job description

About The Landline Company

Landline is building infrastructure that lets passengers clear security and check in for their flight closer to home, before they ever reach the airport. We provide seamless ground connectivity on behalf of American Airlines, Air Canada, and other major carriers, integrating booking, secure transport, and baggage handling into a single ticket across a growing North American network.

Backed by top-tier venture investors and partners like CLEAR, we've spent eight years making the travel day seamless for millions of passengers.

Job Summary

Our drivers and frontline teams run a live 24/7 operation across a growing North American network, and the tools in their hands have to work the first time, even for someone who got hired last week.

As a Software Engineer, you'll own that layer. That includes the driver app at the center of every trip, the handheld tools our station staff run their shifts on, and the connections back into the platform, from booking systems to the operations backend, that keep everyone in sync in real time.

Our operation runs inside the networks of major airline partners like American Airlines and Air Canada. You'll work at hub airports and partner stations, alongside their teams and ours, watching how the operation actually runs. When you find something slow, manual, or error-prone, you'll ship the fix and iterate on it in days rather than quarters.

We work on a modern, engineer-friendly stack and build agentic workflows into how we develop and how our tools run, and you'll have a real voice in where it goes next.

What You'll Do

  • Own the field software layer: the driver app and the handheld tools frontline staff use every shift for scanning, verification, photo capture, and real-time status.
  • Design flows that hold up in real field conditions, including offline use, glare, gloves, and one-handed operation.
  • Integrate device capabilities like camera, barcode/NFC scanning, and GPS so field events are verifiable and auditable without slowing anyone down.
  • Integrate IoT and vehicle telematics, working with platforms like Samsara, so vehicle, device, and operational data flow into one real-time picture of the operation.
  • Work across the platform when the problem calls for it, from booking flows to dispatch visibility to the operations backend, so field tools and core systems behave as one product.
  • Use and build agentic workflows. We rely on LLM-driven tooling in development and in production, and we want people who are excited to push that further.
  • Deploy forward: ride along with drivers, work station shifts at partner hub airports, and ship the fix that week. Your users include our own teams and the airline partner staff we operate alongside.

What We're Looking For

  • You know how to build for spotty connectivity and make sync conflicts boring, with offline-first instincts.
  • Device and IoT integration experience with camera, barcode/NFC scanning, and GPS.
  • Experience with telematics/IoT platforms (Samsara or similar), rugged devices, or BLE sensors is a plus.
  • Modern web fluency in a Next.js/Vercel environment working across the stack when a feature needs it.
  • Agentic or automation experience is a plus, whether that's LLM-driven workflows, orchestration, or process automation that real users depend on.
  • Secure-by-design instincts as we operate in a security-regulated environment and build to federal-grade standards, so data integrity, least privilege, and auditability should come naturally to you.
  • Forward-deployed experience embedded with users or operations teams (as an FDE, in solutions engineering, or on internal tools in a physical-ops business) and you're at your best turning messy operational reality into shipped software.
  • Comfortable reaching into backend services or web frontends when the fix lives there, across the stack.
  • A travel or logistics startup background is a plus, and familiarity with regulated data environments will speed up your ramp.

Why Join

  • Impact — Ground-floor ownership of tools a live operation depends on every day
  • Proximity — You'll watch drivers use what you built the same week you shipped it
  • Culture — A small, ambitious team that values speed, creativity, autonomy, and bias for action

What We Offer

  • Global flight privileges through airline partners
  • Flexible, remote-friendly work environment (with regular travel to stations in the USA and Canada, including Montréal, Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia)
  • Competitive salary, 401(k), and PTO
  • Medical, dental, vision, and company-paid life insurance
  • The opportunity to contribute to sustainable transportation and redefine how people travel

Location: Remote, with occasional travel to station locations in the USA and Canada

Time Zone: EST or CST

Pay Target: $120,000

Job Type: Full Time Salary, Exempt
