Position Summary

The WordPress Full Stack Developer serves as a technical architect and strategist for our digital ecosystem, bridging the gap between complex backend functionality and polished front-end user experiences. This role is responsible for building, customizing, and maintaining high-performance WordPress websites. The Developer exercises independent judgment to architect scalable solutions, integrates third-party services, troubleshoots critical issues, and collaborates with marketing and design teams to ensure that digital properties align with business growth objectives and brand standards.


Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Architecture

  • Act as the primary technical lead for the WordPress environment, evaluating project requirements to determine optimal themes, plugins, and custom development strategies.
  • Build and customize advanced WordPress themes and plugins from the ground up, ensuring code adheres to best practices (WordPress standards, security, version control).
  • Exercise independent judgment to architect database schemas, custom post types, and advanced custom fields to support complex content and marketing needs.
  • Manage staging and production environments, overseeing seamless deployments and minimizing downtime.

Full Stack Integration & Optimization

  • Handle the full stack of web development: implement responsive front-end designs using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while engineering robust back-end solutions with PHP and MySQL.
  • Integrate websites with external APIs, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot), marketing automation tools, and e-commerce platforms (WooCommerce).
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure the website architecture supports SEO strategies, conversion rate optimization, and analytics tracking.
  • Identify patterns in site performance or user feedback; provide actionable insights and technical recommendations to the marketing leadership team to improve site speed, user experience, and functionality.

Security, Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Proactively monitor website health, including uptime, security vulnerabilities, and plugin compatibility; implement solutions to mitigate risks before they impact users.
  • Anticipate potential technical challenges (e.g., traffic spikes, third-party API changes) and implement scalable solutions to keep initiatives on track.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues, performing deep-dive troubleshooting into code conflicts, server errors, or database corruption.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Leadership

  • Serve as the technical liaison between the marketing team and external vendors or internal stakeholders, translating business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator and design teams to refine workflows, ensuring that development timelines are realistic and deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Provide input into the development roadmap, proposing enhancements to the digital experience platform based on emerging technologies and business needs.
  • Represent the technical perspective in internal discussions, helping shape initiatives that support business growth through reliable, high-performing digital tools.

Requirements


Must-Have Qualifications

Background and Education:

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in full-stack web development.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with WordPress development, including building custom themes and plugins.
  • Proven experience with PHP development in a WordPress context.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating third-party APIs and services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Technology Expertise:

  • Core: PHP, MySQL, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, SASS/LESS.
  • WordPress: Advanced Custom Fields, Custom Post Types, REST API, Theme/Plugin Development Hierarchy, Hooks (Actions/Filters).
  • Front-End: Modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js - preferred), responsive design principles, cross-browser compatibility.
  • Tools: Git/GitHub, npm/Webpack, Composer.
  • Server/DevOps: Experience with LAMP/LEMP stack management, cPanel, command-line interface, and staging/production workflows.
