Our mission is to improve outcomes and decrease the cost of healthcare for spine surgery and beyond. The Carlsmed aprevo® personalized surgery platform is designed to improve the standard of care for spine surgery one patient at a time.
Position Description
The Senior Software Engineer (Platform) will work on projects related to proprietary implants, instrumentation, and design automation systems to enable personalized surgery. This role will work on our full-stack applications, with a strong focus on building engaging, performant frontend experiences powered by robust Node.js and GraphQL backend services. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies and shape the technical direction of our products.
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain responsive, performant frontend applications using React, with a focus on component architecture, state management, and user experience
  • Design and implement scalable backend services using Node.js/GraphQL and Kotlin/REST
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to translate requirements into polished, intuitive interfaces and define requirements and delivery timelines
  • Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews
  • Mentor junior engineers and champion engineering best practices
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the full stack

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5 - 10 years of frontend, backend and database experience required. Experience with spine or orthopedics highly desired
  • Expert React experience, including component design, state management, and performance tuning
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js and server-side JavaScript
  • Expert knowledge of GraphQL, including schema design and performance optimization
  • Backend experience with Kotlin (Spring Boot) and RESTful API design
  • Strong grasp of software design patterns and engineering principles
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and debugging skills
  • Remix or React Router (preferred)
  • Java interoperability with Kotlin (preferred)
  • PostgreSQL and database fundamentals (preferred)
  • Prisma ORM, JPA, and database migrations (preferred)
  • DevOps and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) (preferred)
  • CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks (preferred)
