Job description

Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth
Who We Are:
Inversion builds advanced reentry systems to deliver next-generation capabilities from space.
Our mission is to make Earth radically more accessible by turning Low-Earth Orbit into an on-demand logistics domain. We see space not as a destination, but as a platform - one that unlocks unprecedented speed and global reach.
Our spacecraft are designed to deliver payloads anywhere on Earth in under an hour, operating through extreme reentry conditions and landing with high precision. These systems open the door to new ways of testing, delivering, and operating at hypersonic speeds.
Inherently dual-use, our technology is built to meet urgent national security needs while laying the groundwork for future commercial applications. Backed by leading investors including Y Combinator, Spark Capital, and Lockheed Martin Ventures, and working with partners such as the U.S. Space Force and NASA, Inversion is pushing the boundaries of what's possible in space-based defense and logistics.
What You'll Do:
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at Inversion, you will define and build the internal software tools that help our engineering teams innovate, make better decisions, and operate more effectively. You will own the development of internal applications across the stack, from intuitive user interfaces to backend services and integrations. This role is cross-functional and ambiguous by design: you will identify high-leverage opportunities, work closely with technical users, and help shape what high-quality internal tools should look like at Inversion. You will be a key member of the Internal Software Tools team, reporting directly to the Director of Software.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain internal web applications and tooling that support engineering workflows across the company.
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of internal tools, including problem definition, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and long-term maintenance.
  • Build intuitive user interfaces and workflows for technical users, with a strong focus on usability, clarity, and speed.
  • Develop backend services, APIs, and integrations that support internal dashboards, documentation systems, data review tools, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Partner closely with engineers and other technical stakeholders to identify pain points, gather requirements, and translate loosely defined needs into practical internal products.
  • Help define best practices for internal application development, including architecture, testing, code quality, and maintainability.
  • Contribute to the long-term product and technical direction of the Internal Software Tools team.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production-quality software systems.
  • Strong front-end development experience with TypeScript/Javascript and frameworks like React.
  • Experience developing backend systems, APIs, or internal tools using technologies such as Python, Node.js, or Go.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including system design, testing, debugging, code quality, and maintainability.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments and basic CI/CD workflows.
  • An innovative and optimistic approach to an environment with high ambiguity, shifting priorities, and loosely defined problem spaces.
  • Position may require occasional extended hours and/or weekend work.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience building internal tools for engineering teams, such as dashboards, test and data review tools, documentation systems, or workflow automation. Extra points if this was for Aerospace!
  • Experience integrating AI-enabled capabilities or interfaces into internal software products.
  • Familiarity with databases, data modeling, and the tradeoffs between different storage approaches.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or modern deployment workflows.
  • Prior experience in a small team or startup environment where you were expected to define scope, set direction, and execute with a high degree of ownership.

Our office headquarters is located in Playa Vista, CA. This position requires in office presence.
The California annual base salary for this role is currently $139,000 - $201,000. Pay Grades are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity.
ITAR Compliance:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
