Permanent, Part-time
For over 35 years, Umbrella Family and Child Centres of Hamilton has been dedicated to offering high-quality programs for young children and their families. We operate full-day early learning and childcare centres for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, along with before and after school extended-day programs for kindergarten and school-aged children at over 27 locations across the Greater Hamilton Area.ย

Location: South Meadowย Centre; 23 Royce Ave,ย Stoney Creek, ONย L8G 3B2
Total Weekly Hours:ย 20.25ย hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday 2:15pm - 6:00pm
Pay Rate (per Collective Agreement, includes wage grants):

  • RECE: 28.90ย per hour
  • Non RECE: 26.35 per hour

About the Role
As an After School Educator, your primary responsibility is to be present for children and their families while developing and implementing programs that meet their developmental needs and interests. You will create meaningful play experiences, provide healthy snacks, supervise outdoor and indoor activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of children in your care.
Duties vary by centre, but your role always includes supporting children, assisting colleagues, and contributing to a welcoming and well-organized environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet children and families with warmth and professionalism
  • Support children as they transition from home to program, including self-regulation and social engagement
  • Engage children in meaningful activities using a programming cart of materials
  • Provide morning snacks, ensuring children wash hands and eat safely
  • Help children tidy up and prepare for their school day, including outdoor play as appropriate
  • Set up and facilitate activities aligned with How Does Learning Happen?
  • Supervise snack and ensure all children eat safely
  • Provide indoor and outdoor play opportunities and support childrenโ€™s interests
  • Monitor childrenโ€™s behaviour, offering guidance and support as needed

Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and member in good standing with the College of ECEs OR educational requirements to obtain Directorโ€™s Approval for working alone with children
  • Related experience in a childcare setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and working ability to effectively interact with children requiring behavioural guidance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of How Does Learning Happen?
  • Experience in program planning and implementation for JK/SK and school-aged children
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to a variety of responsibilities and schedules
  • Passion for supporting children, families, and colleagues in a positive, team-focused environment
Certifications:
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Proof ofย up-to-date immunizationsย (TB, Tetanus, MMR)
