Job description

DESCRIPTION *** Currently hiring for various part-time shifts as well as substitutes *** We are looking for someone to assist the teacher in our "Kids Corner" preschool program for the 2026/2027 school year. Shoreview's "Kids Corner" offers children ages 2 to 5 years a variety of fun and educational activities designed to stimulate their social and intellectual development. In this program, younger participants learn about letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, while older learners prepare for kindergarten through a curriculum designed around language, problem solving skills, pre-reading and pre-arithmetic.

They also explore art, music, dramatic play, physical fitness and literature. This program follows the school year, running from September 2026 through May 2027. We offer a full-day program as well as half days in the mornings and afternoons, Monday - Friday.

Kids Corner is located in the Community Center. DUTIES INCLUDE Assist the lead teacher in planning and implementing age appropriate educational activities Supervise children during classroom instruction, outdoor play, meals, rest periods, and assisting in daily routines Accompany children into the Community Center's shallow pools; supervise and ensure safety Foster a positive, caring, and inclusive classroom environment Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, supplies, and learning centers Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom by sanitizing toys, equipment, and surfaces Observe children's behavior and progress, reporting concerns or achievements to the teacher Assist with attendance, recordkeeping, and classroom documentation as needed Communicate professionally with parents and guardians under the direction of the lead teacher Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities Perform other duties as assigned by the recreation program supervisor or teacher QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 16 years old CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire (training provided) Coursework in elementary education is desired Experience working with preschoolers desired OTHER Shifts Available: PM Assistant 1 Monday - Friday Noon - 6 pm PM Assistant 2 Monday, Wednesday, Friday Noon - 5:30 pm PM Assistant 3 Tuesday and Thursday Noon - 5:30 pm Mid-Day Float Tuesday and Thursday 9 am - 2:15 pm *** FREE Community Center Membership. *** PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors in a preschool classroom, with regular outdoor activities and supervision in the Community Center's shallow pools.

Employees frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor while supervising and assisting young children. The position requires frequent lifting of children and classroom supplies up to 40 pounds, effective communication with children, parents, and staff, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced childcare environment while maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive learning environment.
