What is a Full Stack JavaScript Engineer?

A Full Stack JavaScript Engineer is a developer who is proficient in both front-end and back-end development using JavaScript technologies. They work on the client-side (using frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js) as well as the server-side (often with Node.js and Express). This role involves building, testing, and maintaining web applications, managing databases, and ensuring seamless interaction between the front and back ends. Full Stack JavaScript Engineers are valued for their ability to handle all layers of a web application, making them versatile members of any development team.

How do Full Stack JavaScript Engineers typically collaborate with other team members on projects?

Full Stack JavaScript Engineers often work closely with front-end developers, back-end developers, UX/UI designers, and product managers to deliver end-to-end solutions. Collaboration usually involves participating in agile meetings, code reviews, and pair programming sessions to ensure seamless integration between client and server components. Effective communication is key, as engineers need to translate technical requirements into functional features while coordinating with different stakeholders to meet project timelines. This collaborative environment helps foster learning and professional growth while ensuring high-quality deliverables.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack JavaScript Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack JavaScript Engineer, you need expertise in JavaScript, proficiency with both front-end (e.g., React, Angular) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Express) frameworks, and a solid understanding of web architecture, typically supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, RESTful APIs, databases such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL, and containerization tools like Docker is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and adaptability help engineers work effectively in collaborative and fast-changing environments. These skills ensure robust, scalable web applications and seamless collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Full-stack Engineer (front-end focused)

DIGITAL PLASTICS INC

Boston, MA

Full-time

Medical

Job description

Plastik AI is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize the plastic and plastic compounding industries, bridging the gap between engineers using plastics and manufacturers creating them. At the core of our platform is Herman, an advanced AI agent designed to match product requirements with ideal plastic compounds. Herman leverages a combination of public and proprietary data to enable rapid and precise material recommendation, which can be easily ordered within a marketplace.

We are looking for a skilled Full-stack Software Engineer to play a key role in building the front-end and back-end infrastructure for tools and interfaces that make Herman accessible to engineers and manufacturing companies. In this role, you will mainly drive and implement the design, development, test, and delivery of UI features that expose the portfolio’s rich capabilities for users while providing exceptional easy-to-use experiences.

Our ideal candidate has more experience with front-end development but is capable of interfacing with the entire stack for rapid feature deployment. We see a combination of these skills as crucial for helping us meld our novel user experiences with AI Agents to enable easy plastic selection, sourcing, and logistics. This transformative approach unlocks new possibilities in plastics innovation, enabling faster, smarter, and more efficient product development and material discovery.

As part of our cross-disciplinary team, you will work alongside MIT-trained engineers, scientists, and business professionals to build a groundbreaking AI platform for the plastics industry. Join us in transforming how the world approaches plastic materials through cutting-edge technology and innovation.

Our stack: Javascript, React, React.js, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes, Python, PyTorch
