What is a full stack engineer intern?

Full Stack Engineer Interns are students or recent graduates who assist in developing both the front-end and back-end components of web applications. They work under the guidance of experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience with programming languages, frameworks, and tools used throughout the software development lifecycle. Their responsibilities often include writing code, testing applications, fixing bugs, and collaborating with teams to deliver functional software. Through this internship, they develop practical skills and a deeper understanding of how web systems work end-to-end.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack engineer intern?

To thrive as a Full Stack Engineer Intern, you need a solid understanding of programming languages like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and at least one backend language, often supported by coursework or relevant project experience. Familiarity with frameworks such as React or Angular, backend systems like Node.js or Django, version control (Git), and basic database management is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and effective communication help interns stand out in fast-paced development teams. These skills and qualities are essential for contributing to real-world projects, collaborating effectively, and accelerating professional growth in a technical environment.

What types of projects and technologies can I expect to work with as a full stack engineer intern?

As a Full Stack Engineer Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects ranging from building user interfaces with front-end frameworks like React or Angular to developing backend services using technologies such as Node.js, Python, or Java. Interns often assist with integrating APIs, database management, and testing features in both development and production environments. You'll likely collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other developers, gaining exposure to the complete software development lifecycle. This hands-on experience is designed to help you build practical skills and contribute meaningful code to real applications.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an In office highly skilled and experienced Senior Full Stack Developer to join our team at Welltel, a leading telehealth services provider in New York. As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will be responsible for owning Welltel's technology platform end-to-end, architecting, building, and evolving systems that directly impact patient outcomes and operational performance at scale. Responsibilities:

  • Own full technical ownership of our platform architecture, development, and roadmap

  • Sourcing, hiring, and building an engineering team from the ground up

  • Translate business and clinical goals into elegant, scalable technical solutions

  • Lead code reviews, set engineering standards, and drive best practices

  • Coordinate with leadership on product strategy and long-term technical vision

  • Integrate third-party systems, APIs, and healthcare platforms

  • Build for reliability, security, performance, and scale

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of full-stack software development experience

  • Proven ability to lead and build engineering teams, not just contribute to them

  • Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and REST APIs

  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases

  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines

  • Familiarity with healthcare technology, HIPAA compliance, or regulated industries (preferred)

  • Experience with EHR/EMR integrations or third-party healthcare systems (preferred)

  • A self-starter who thrives with autonomy and takes full ownership of outcomes

  • Exceptional communicator – comfortable with both engineers and executives

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary: $140,000–$200,000 based on experience

  • Paid time off

  • Real ownership – you will shape the future of this platform, not just maintain it

  • Significant room to grow as the company scales

  • Work alongside leadership that is deeply invested in building something great

If you are a visionary leader with a passion for building innovative technology solutions and a commitment to patient care, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity. Join our team today and help us shape the future of telehealth!
