What are Full Stack Dot Net Developers?

Full Stack Dot Net Developers are software professionals skilled in both front-end and back-end development using Microsoft's .NET framework. They design, develop, and maintain web applications, handling everything from user interface design to server-side logic and database integration. These developers typically work with technologies like ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Their versatility allows them to manage entire software projects and collaborate across different stages of the development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Dot Net Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Dot Net Developer, you need strong expertise in C#, .NET framework, front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a solid understanding of database management, typically supported by a relevant degree or certifications. Familiarity with tools such as Visual Studio, SQL Server, Azure DevOps, and version control systems like Git is commonly expected. Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help you collaborate effectively and adapt to evolving project requirements. These skills ensure the development of robust, scalable applications and efficient cross-functional collaboration in dynamic tech environments.

What is the difference between Full Stack Dot Net Developer vs Front End Developer?

AspectFull Stack Dot Net DeveloperFront End Developer
Required SkillsProficiency in C#, ASP.NET, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSSExpertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React or Angular
Work EnvironmentDevelops both server-side and client-side applications, often in enterprise settingsFocuses on user interface and experience, primarily front-end design and development
Common UsageUsed in full-stack development teams within .NET-based projectsUsed in UI/UX teams, web design, and front-end development projects

While both roles involve web development, a Full Stack Dot Net Developer handles both backend and frontend tasks using .NET technologies, whereas a Front End Developer specializes in creating engaging user interfaces and experiences. The full stack role requires knowledge of server-side programming, databases, and client-side scripting, making it broader in scope.

What are some common challenges Full Stack .NET Developers face when balancing front-end and back-end responsibilities?

Full Stack .NET Developers often navigate the challenge of staying up-to-date with both front-end frameworks (like Angular or React) and back-end technologies (such as ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework). Balancing these skill sets requires continuous learning and strong time management, as project demands can shift rapidly between user interface enhancements and server-side logic. Additionally, they frequently collaborate with UI/UX designers, QA testers, and DevOps teams, making effective communication and adaptability crucial for delivering cohesive and scalable solutions.

Job description

Overview

LMI is looking for a mid-level Full Stack Developer to help build and extend a portfolio of mission applications for a DoD customer on a DoD-accredited cloud platform in AWS GovCloud. You'll be an early member of a small, cross-functional application team working alongside an HCD researcher and a front-end developer to deliver mission tools that operate up to and including IL6 environments.

This isn't a maintain-the-backlog role. You'll own the API, authentication, and data connectivity layer between the application and the backend data platform, and you'll help shape how that integration pattern gets built for successive applications as the portfolio grows.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

This position requires an active Secret DoD clearance. This is a 100% remote role.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Own the API, authentication, and data connectivity layer, designing and implementing RESTful services that connect mission applications to a backend data platform built on AWS GovCloud
  • Build and ship full stack features across the application layer, working closely with the front-end developer who owns the UI implementation
  • Integrate with backend data services including relational databases (Aurora or Amazon RDS), AWS Lambda-based processing pipelines, and AWS Glue
  • Design and implement role-based access control, session management, and authentication patterns appropriate for environments up to IL6
  • Collaborate directly with the HCD researcher and front-end developer in working sessions, shaping technical decisions that affect user experience rather than just implementing specs
  • Contribute to backend architecture decisions across successive application builds, establishing repeatable integration patterns for the application portfolio
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Active Secret clearance
  • 3+ years of full stack development experience; comfortable owning both backend services and application-layer integration
  • Solid backend experience in Node.js and/or Python
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services that support scalable, maintainable integration across distributed application components
  • Experience with relational databases; PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, or Amazon RDS and including schema design, SQL development, and operational support
  • Familiarity with AWS services relevant to application integration: API Gateway, Lambda, IAM, S3, RDS/Aurora, and related GovCloud services
  • Experience implementing authentication and role-based access control in web applications
  • Ability to move fast and iterate without heavy specs or detailed tickets

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience developing software in DoD or IC environments governed by federal security and compliance requirements, secure coding practices, access control, auditability, and deployment constraints in accredited systems
  • Hands-on experience with AWS GovCloud, understanding of service availability differences, compliance boundaries, and GovCloud-specific constraints
  • Experience building on IL4 or IL6 platforms, or familiarity with DoD Impact Level requirements and how they shape application architecture decisions
  • Prior work alongside HCD or UX teams, experience translating validated design direction into application behavior rather than working from static mockups alone
  • A portfolio of side projects, open-source contributions, or other evidence of a builder's disposition; we care more about what you've built than where you've worked
  • SOF operator or SOF-support background with understanding of SOF core activities and mission sets
