What is a full stack developer?

A Full Stack Developer is a software professional who is skilled in both front-end (client side) and back-end (server side) development. They are capable of designing, building, and maintaining complete web applications or systems, handling everything from user interfaces and databases to server logic and APIs. Full Stack Developers often work with a range of programming languages and frameworks, such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Node.js, Python, and SQL, among others. Their versatility allows them to contribute to multiple stages of the software development lifecycle, making them valuable assets to development teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer, you need expertise in both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Python, or Java) and a solid understanding of web development principles, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, back-end environments like Node.js or Django, version control systems like Git, and possibly cloud platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills distinguish excellent developers, allowing them to work effectively in team environments and with stakeholders. These technical and soft skills are vital for building, maintaining, and optimizing complex, user-friendly web applications that meet business needs.

What are some common challenges full stack developers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Full Stack Developers often collaborate with designers, backend engineers, project managers, and QA testers, which can introduce challenges like aligning on project requirements and managing different technical perspectives. Coordinating between frontend and backend tasks while ensuring seamless integration is another common hurdle. Additionally, staying up-to-date with evolving technologies on both ends of the stack requires strong time management and continuous learning. Effective communication and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering cohesive solutions.

What is the difference between Full Stack Developer vs Front End Developer?

AspectFull Stack DeveloperFront End Developer
SkillsProficient in both front-end and back-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, server-side languages, and databases.Specializes in client-side technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular.

Front End Developers focus solely on creating engaging and responsive user interfaces. Understanding these differences helps employers and developers choose the right role for their project needs.

Is full stack developer still in demand?

Full stack developers are currently in high demand due to their ability to work on both front-end and back-end development, with skills in frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, and database management. The role remains essential across industries, especially as companies prioritize versatile developers who can adapt to evolving technologies.

What will a full stack developer do?

A full stack developer designs, develops, and maintains both the front-end and back-end components of web applications. They work with languages like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and server-side technologies, often using frameworks and tools such as React, Node.js, and databases. Full stack developers are responsible for ensuring seamless integration and functionality across all parts of a web project.

Job description

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Developer to help design and build our AI-powered application and deliver scalable, high-performance applications across the full technology stack. Unlike large enterprises, we move fast and embrace agility — valuing rapid prototyping, iteration, and learning over lengthy requirement cycles.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on developer who thrives in an Agile environment, actively uses AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to build faster and better, and is excited to apply AI/LLM concepts directly to our product roadmap.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL GET TO:

  • Build, test, and iterate quickly on prototypes and production-ready applications.
  • Lead full-stack development across front-end, back-end, and infrastructure.
  • Leverage AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) as a core part of your daily workflow to accelerate development, automate repetitive tasks, and raise code quality.
  • Design, build, and evolve AI-powered features for our application, integrating LLMs, agents, and related AI infrastructure into the core product.
  • Develop APIs, services, and cloud-native solutions on AWS.
  • Collaborate closely with architecture, product management, and DevOps to shape requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Work alongside our DevOps team to ensure smooth deployments, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Take pride of ownership in what you build — we invest in strong CI/CD and automated testing, with feature flags so releases aren’t handicapped by business readiness, letting the team work smart, not just hard. This reflects our values in action: taking responsibility from design through production support, and pitching in when the team needs it.
  • Contribute to a culture of experimentation, agility, and continuous improvement.
  • Write and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and champion a strong quality assurance culture across the codebase.
  • Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.

THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE/ARE:

  • 7+ years of professional experience as a full-stack developer.
  • Agile mindset with a strong focus on prototyping, iteration, and speed-to-value.
  • Front End: Angular or React, strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Back End: Strong, hands-on proficiency in Python required; also .NET, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, RDS.
  • Infrastructure: Deep, hands-on production experience with AWS (EC2, EKS/Kubernetes, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, Cognito, CloudWatch, Bedrock, etc.) required — including the ability to independently diagnose and resolve common operational issues (e.g., pod/container failures, scaling, deployment errors) rather than relying on DevOps for routine troubleshooting.
  • Quality & Testing: Strong track record writing automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end), test-driven development, and building test coverage into CI/CD pipelines.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Demonstrated, hands-on experience using AI coding agents/assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to write, review, and ship code faster.
  • Building AI-Powered Products: Experience building AI/LLM-powered application features (e.g., agents, RAG, embeddings), ideally leveraging AWS Bedrock — you’ll help build and evolve our product’s AI capabilities directly.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, scalability, and performance.
  • AI Tooling: Hands-on, shipped experience with LLM orchestration frameworks, evaluation/monitoring tooling, and vector databases for embeddings and retrieval required — this should be production experience, not just interest.
  • Experience collaborating with DevOps teams and familiarity with CI/CD practices.
  • Culture Fit: Technical depth paired with humility — someone who asks first how they can add value, is brutally honest about what’s working and what isn’t, and cares more about the team’s success than personal credit. We have zero tolerance for ego.

Nice to Have

  • GIS (Geographic Information Systems)knowledge or experience with geospatial data integration.
  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience.

WHAT WE OFFER: 3 weeks of PTO, 13 company paid holidays, paid parental leave, and a flexible work environment. Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, and 401K plans begin the first of the month after 30 days of employment.

OUR PURPOSE is to provide opportunities that help people thrive using their God-given abilities.

OUR CORE VALUES:

  • Be a Self-Starter. Continuously seek ways to improve yourself and the business, take responsibility, and act with urgency to solve problems.
  • Be a Team Player. Prioritize team success over individual achievements, support your colleagues, and contribute to creating high-performing teams.
  • Be a Patriot. Focus on the greater good of the organization, be honest about what’s working, and passionately work towards making the company better.
  • Do it Right. Uphold high standards and integrity, even when no one is watching, and always aim to do the right thing.
  • Be Humble. Lead by serving others, value diverse perspectives, and remain open to new ideas and feedback.
