What is a full stack developer with relocation?

A Full Stack Developer with relocation is a software engineer skilled in both front-end and back-end development who is open to or required to move to a new city or country for a job. These professionals are proficient in various technologies and frameworks, allowing them to work on the entire technology stack of a web application. Relocation support from employers may include assistance with visas, housing, and settling into the new location. This role is ideal for candidates seeking new career opportunities and experiences abroad or in a different region.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack developer with relocation?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer with relocation, you need strong proficiency in front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), frameworks, and a solid understanding of software development principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and frameworks like React, Node.js, or Django is typically required, along with experience in working with databases. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication skills are crucial, especially when transitioning to a new country or team. These skills and qualities enable you to effectively build and maintain scalable applications while integrating smoothly into new work environments.

How does relocating for a full stack developer position typically impact onboarding and integration with the new team?

Relocating for a Full Stack Developer role often involves a period of adjustment, both personally and professionally. Many companies provide relocation support, such as temporary housing and guidance for local logistics, to ease the transition. During onboarding, you'll likely participate in orientation sessions and team introductions to help you acclimate to the company culture and workflows. Collaboration is highly valued in full stack development, so you'll be encouraged to engage with cross-functional teams early on, which helps you build relationships and understand project expectations. Embracing open communication and seeking mentorship from colleagues can greatly enhance your integration and set you up for long-term success.

Job description

NuFriends is a social platform bringing strangers together IRL to find NuFriends. We have raised capital at a ~$13.2M post-money valuation to fund the initial build and launch of the platform from a prominent angel investor.

About the Role

We’re looking for a senior full-stack engineer with a strong focus on mobile development to help build the NuFriends iOS and Android app from the ground up. You will own core mobile experiences while also building the backend services, APIs, infrastructure, and internal tools that power the product.

You will also directly lead two full-stack engineers who will help build the product alongside you. This is a highly hands-on role: you will be expected to remain deeply involved in coding, architecture, technical decision-making, code review, and execution while providing day-to-day technical direction to the team.

You will work directly with the founder to shape the product, make technical decisions, and establish the engineering foundation for NuFriends.

Responsibilities

* Build and ship high-quality user experiences across the NuFriends iOS and Android apps.

* Build the mobile app using a shared cross-platform codebase.

* Develop core product flows including onboarding, user profiles, event discovery, RSVPs, invitations, notifications, and post-event messaging.

* Build and maintain backend APIs, services, databases, and integrations that support user-facing features.

* Implement SMS verification, event confirmations, reminders, and contact-based invitations.

* Build lightweight internal tools for creating events, managing attendees, tracking attendance, managing users, and sending communications.

* Own features end to end, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, performance, and iteration.

* Establish the initial technical architecture, engineering standards, development workflows, and deployment processes.

* Directly manage and technically lead two full-stack engineers who will help build the NuFriends product.

* Delegate technical work, review code, unblock engineers, and maintain a high standard for engineering quality and execution.

* Help develop the engineering team through mentorship, feedback, and clear technical direction.

* Work directly with the founder to translate product concepts and Figma designs into production-ready experiences.

* Help interview and onboard future engineers as the team grows.

Compensation

  • $120,000 - $130,000 plus co-founder equity (40%)

Requirements

* 4+ years of experience in full-stack, mobile, or product engineering.

* Strong hands-on coding skills, with the ability to independently design, implement, debug, and optimize production-quality applications.

* Strong experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.

* Experience building and shipping mobile applications.

* Experience working across both frontend and backend systems.

* Experience designing and integrating backend APIs and services.

* Experience building products from 0→1.

* Ability to provide technical leadership while remaining highly hands-on.

* Ability to effectively manage, mentor, and review the work of other engineers.

Preferred Experience

* Experience with React Native.

* Experience with Expo.

* Experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

* Experience with PostgreSQL.

* Experience building consumer mobile products.

* Experience implementing push notifications.

* Experience working with mobile contact permissions, deep links, and invitations.

* Experience deploying applications through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

* Experience mentoring or managing software engineers.

Why Join Us

* Serve as one of the earliest technical hires and have significant influence over NuFriends’ architecture, product, and engineering culture.

* Lead a small engineering team from the beginning while remaining deeply involved in building the product.

* Work directly with the founder and play a major role in translating the company vision into a real consumer product.

* Own meaningful parts of the product across mobile, backend, infrastructure, and internal tooling.

* Help build a product focused on improving real-world social connection and friendship.

* Join at an early stage where your work will directly influence the trajectory of the company.
