Job description

Description:

CLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR START: Yes

CLEARANCE TYPE: Top Secret

LOCATION: This will be a hybrid position based out of Maryland

Job Summary:

The Full Stack Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining secure software applications that support mission-critical government and commercial programs. This role contributes across the entire software development lifecycle, building both front-end and back-end solutions.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an Agile environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is passionate about building secure, scalable, and maintainable software.

Requirements:

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications spanning a React-based frontend and a Python service layer.

· Design and implement secure RESTful APIs, including request/response validation, consistent error handling, and generated API documentation.

· Model and evolve relational data (schema design, indexing, and migrations) and write efficient queries against it.

· Implement authentication and authorization flows, enforcing role-based access consistently at the API boundary.

· Package applications and their dependencies as containers for consistent local development, test, and deployment.

· Instrument services with structured logging, metrics, and traces to support troubleshooting and performance analysis in production.

· Participate in software architecture and design discussions, weighing tradeoffs among performance, security, and maintainability.

· Write and maintain unit, integration, and system tests; contribute to automated test coverage in CI.

· Participate in peer code reviews, both giving and incorporating substantive feedback.

· Troubleshoot defects and resolve production issues across the full stack.

· Interpret customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

· Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

· Support software deployments and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Maintain technical documentation related to software design, APIs, and deployment.

Skills

· Professional Python development building web APIs with FastAPI or a comparable framework (Flask, Django REST, Starlette).

· Frontend development with React (component composition, hooks, and client-side state management) using modern build tooling (Vite, Webpack, or similar).

· Working proficiency with PostgreSQL or another relational database: writing non-trivial SQL, designing normalized schemas, and reasoning about query performance.

· Ability to containerize applications with Docker/Docker Compose, including authoring Dockerfiles/compose files, orchestrating multi-service local environments, and debugging container and networking issues.

· Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.

· Understanding of software development best practices and Agile methodologies.

· Familiarity with Linux operating systems.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education & Experience

· Active Secret or Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility. A Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· 5-6 years of professional software development experience preferred.

· Experience working within Agile software development teams preferred.

· Experience supporting government or Department of Defense programs is a plus.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods.

· Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.

· Ability to communicate effectively in person and through virtual collaboration tools

Benefits & Perks

As an Employee First company, we offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package:

· 100% Company-paid medical insurance for employees

· 100% Company-paid dental and vision insurance

· Competitive salary

· Generous 401k employer contribution to your 401k with no required personal contribution with immediate vesting

· Generous PTO and parental leave

· Flexible work hours

This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions; therefore, this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.
