What is a full stack developer co op?

A Full Stack Developer Co Op is a student or recent graduate who works temporarily with a company to gain practical experience in both front-end and back-end software development. In this role, you may collaborate with experienced developers, write code for web applications, and learn about the full software development lifecycle. The position is designed to help you apply your academic knowledge in a real-world setting while building skills in various technologies and tools used by professional developers.

What types of projects and technologies can I expect to work with as a full stack developer co op?

As a Full Stack Developer Co Op, you will typically work on both front-end and back-end components of web applications, giving you exposure to a variety of technologies such as JavaScript frameworks (React or Angular), server-side languages (Node.js, Python, or Java), and databases (SQL or NoSQL). You may be assigned to collaborative projects that involve building new features, fixing bugs, or optimizing existing systems. This role often requires you to work closely with designers, other developers, and quality assurance teams, offering a well-rounded experience in the software development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack developer co op, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer Co Op, you need a solid grasp of web development fundamentals, including proficiency in languages like JavaScript, Python, or Java, and relevant coursework or experience in computer science. Familiarity with frameworks such as React or Angular for front-end, Node.js or Django for back-end, and version control systems like Git is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, eagerness to learn, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and adapt quickly in a professional environment. These skills and qualities are crucial for successfully contributing to development projects and gaining meaningful experience during your co-op term.

Job description

About Lexful

Build the Future of KnowledgeOps.

At Lexful, we aren’t just building a tool; we are redefining how the Managed Service Provider (MSP) industry operates. For decades, IT documentation has been static, fragmented, and manual—becoming an operational risk rather than an asset. We are changing that.

As the creators of the industry’s first AI-native IT documentation platform, Lexful turns "stale" data into real-time contextual intelligence. Our mission is to move MSPs away from legacy storage and toward a modern "KnowledgeOps" ecosystem. Through our intelligent assistant, "Ask Lex," we empower thousands of technicians to stop hunting for information and start solving complex problems instantly.

Joining Lexful means joining a team of industry veterans and innovators backed by Top Down Ventures. We are a security-first, product-led company dedicated to eliminating "tribal knowledge" and building the autonomous infrastructure of the future. If you are passionate about AI, automation, and making a massive impact on a global industry, you’ll find a home here.

The Role

We're seeking a Senior Full Stack Developers to participate in the building of scalable systems and infrastructure from the ground up. In this role, you'll help shape how our platform operates, integrates, and scales by combining delightful user experiences, robust backend services, enterprise integrations, and AI-powered capabilities. This is an opportunity to build at 0-to-1 scale, applying deep expertise across the full stack to deliver secure, reliable, and future-ready systems that drive innovation.

You'll contribute to:

  • Frontend Features: Develop user workflows incorporating contextually intelligent AI features.
  • Integrations & Data Pipelines: Build connectors to enterprise software, design data migration and ingestion systems
  • Platform: Security, SOC 2 compliance, multi-tenant architecture, observability, performance at scale
  • Core Services: Processing, storage, versioning. Build backend services powering user-facing features
  • Infrastructure: AWS ops (ECS, Aurora, S3), CI/CD, monitoring, production reliability

This is a generalist role, you'll flex across domains based on priorities, not stay in a silo.

What We're Looking For

Must Have:

  • 7+ years backend experience, including 2+ years at early-stage startup (0-to-1 experience) with proficiency in both frontend and backend technologies.
  • B2B SaaS or enterprise software experience.
  • Production systems experience at scale, you know what "production-ready" means
  • Product sense, you understand why we build and can influence what we build
  • Ownership mindset, you've led initiatives end-to-end
  • Strong fundamentals: APIs, databases, distributed systems, security, cloud
  • Passionate about code quality with a thorough understanding software development concepts that promote readability, maintainability, and testability
  • Actively uses AI tools as part of your daily development workflow for tasks like code generation, debugging, refactoring, and design exploration. You reach for tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Love for problem solving with an innate sense of curiosity and urgency

Technical:

  • React, HTML, CSS
  • TypeScript/Node.js, Python, or similar
  • PostgreSQL, NoSQL and query optimization
  • AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudWatch)
  • Infrastructure as code with tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, etc
  • API design, authentication (OAuth, JWT)
  • Observability and monitoring
  • Security best practices, compliance frameworks

Bonus:

  • Mobile app experience
  • Migration tools or data import/integration systems

Our Stack

React, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, S3, Docker, Lambda, AWS

Why You'll Love It

  • Build data systems that power revolutionary AI applications.
  • Work with novel data patterns created by AI-native workflows.
  • Design infrastructure that enables AI capabilities others can't match.
  • Direct impact on AI model performance and user experience quality.
  • If located in Vancouver, you'll have a chance to work alongside the Vancouver Engineer team.

What We Offer

  • Top of the line benefits package including 100% employer paid extended health and dental for you and your family.
  • A fully remote, flexible work environment with autonomy and ownership.
  • A competitive salary and meaningful equity ownership in a pre-funded, high-growth startup.
  • The opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology with a strong product-market fit.
  • The chance to be a founding team member, shaping the company's product vision and culture.
  • A team that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

We invite all qualified candidates to apply. Please note, you must be eligible to work in Canada to be considered for this role. We thank you for your interest, and only successful applicants will be contacted. Please no Recruiters or phone calls.
