What is a full motion video analyst?

A Full Motion Video (FMV) Analyst is a professional who analyzes live or recorded video feeds, often from aerial platforms like drones, to gather intelligence and support military or security operations. They review real-time or archived footage, identify objects or activities of interest, and provide timely reports to decision-makers. FMV Analysts play a critical role in surveillance, reconnaissance, and targeting missions, helping to ensure accurate situational awareness. Their work requires a strong attention to detail, proficiency with video analysis tools, and knowledge of intelligence procedures.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full motion video analyst?

To thrive as a Full Motion Video Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in intelligence, geospatial analysis, or a related field, often supported by relevant security clearances. Familiarity with video exploitation software, GIS platforms, and intelligence databases is typically required, along with certifications like GEOINT or experience with ISR systems. Excellent communication, critical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure are vital soft skills for delivering clear, actionable intelligence. These skills and qualifications are essential for accurately interpreting video data and supporting timely, informed decision-making in security and defense operations.
