A day in the life on the road

You touch down in a new city, roll into a clean, buzzing shop, and get briefed on a batch of complex parts that demand tenths and flawless finishes. You review the print, confirm GD&T callouts, and choose the right wheel for the alloy in front of you. After a careful setup on OD and ID grinders, you dial in, dress, and verify runout. First piece is inspected with micrometers, bore gages, height gages, and an optical comparator. A CMM report confirms you are in the sweet spot. You troubleshoot a surface finish issue, tweak feeds and speeds, and the parts start flowing. Another plant. Another challenge. Same commitment to precision.

What you will handle
  • End-to-end setup and operation of OD, ID, and cylindrical CNC and manual grinding equipment
  • One-off and short-run components produced to extremely tight tolerances
  • On-the-fly machine adjustments and process troubleshooting
  • Selection, dressing, and care of grinding wheels for peak performance
  • Work with exotic alloys and hardened steels
  • Blueprint and GD&T interpretation to plan each operation
  • Hands-on inspections using micrometers, bore gages, height gages, optical comparators, CMMs, and other precision tools
  • Maintain dimensional accuracy and exceptional surface finishes in fast-paced environments
  • Partner with shop teams to solve manufacturing challenges
What you bring
  • 5 or more years in OD, ID, or cylindrical grinding across CNC and manual platforms
  • Proven success holding tight tolerances and producing precision components
  • Manual grinding background preferred; CNC grinding experience a plus
  • Expert blueprint reading and GD&T fluency
  • Advanced inspection, troubleshooting, and problem-solving strengths
  • Experience machining or grinding exotic materials and hardened steels preferred
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime when needed
  • Willing and able to travel nationwide for project work
Pay and benefits
  • Competitive base pay starting at 40+ dollars per hour, based on experience
  • Tax-free per diem: 125 to 180 dollars per day
  • Mileage reimbursement: 0.76 dollars per mile
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Employee referral program
  • Long-term, open-ended project opportunities
