Job description

Deacon Construction is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to lead field operations on large‐scale, ground‑up commercial projects. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on builder who excels at orchestrating subcontractors, keeping schedules on track, and solving problems in real time—without losing sight of safety, quality, or cost.
Why Join Deacon Construction?
At Deacon, we’re more than builders—we’re collaborators and problem‑solvers. Our core values—Integrity, Teamwork, Commitment to Excellence—drive every project. When you join us, you’ll find:
  • People‑first leadership: mentorship, training, and a clear path to Senior Super or General Superintendent.
  • Meaningful work: ground‑up civic, healthcare, industrial, and commercial facilities that shape communities.
  • Stability amp; growth, privately held, financially strong, and active across the West Coast.
  • Community amp; culture: volunteer events, summer picnics, jobsite BBQs, and a safety culture that puts people first.
About the Role
As Superintendent, you will run the jobsite from first shovel to final punch. You’ll own the master schedule, coordinate subs, manage site logistics, and deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining Deacon’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the full project schedule, updating look‑ahead and recovery plans.
  • Direct day‑to‑day field activities: manpower, equipment, material deliveries, and site logistics.
  • Monitor subcontractor progress, verify compliance with drawings/specifications, and drive quality control.
  • Lead daily safety huddles, enforce company and OSHA safety requirements, and conduct jobsite inspections.
  • Manage project documentation: RFIs, field reports, photos, and daily logs using Microsoft Office and Procore/PlanGrid.
  • Coordinate with agencies and inspectors for testing, special inspections, and required reporting.
  • Mentor project engineers, foremen, and assistant superintendents; foster a collaborative, high‑performance team.
  • Track quantities, productivity, and cost codes; forecast labor and equipment needs.
  • Resolve site challenges quickly (weather impacts, unforeseen conditions, emergencies) to keep the schedule intact.
Qualifications amp; Skills
  • 5-10+ years of progressive field experience with ground‑up commercial projects valued $20M+.
  • Proven track record as lead/primary Superintendent on at least two large projects from start to finish.
  • Expert in reading plans, specs, and subcontracts; strong knowledge of means and methods.
  • Advanced scheduling skills—able to build, update, and recover schedules in MS Project.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiar with Procore, PlanGrid, or similar field‑management tools.
  • Solid understanding of cost control, quantity tracking, and basic construction accounting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to motivate diverse trade teams.
  • OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary + project bonus program.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Vehicle allowance or company truck, fuel card, and phone/laptop.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and continuous safety amp; leadership training.
