Position Summary 


The Operations Manager is responsible for the supervision and performance of day-to-day drayage 
operations, including dispatch management, driver coordination, load planning, and customer service. 
This role ensures that all freight movement is executed safely, on time, and in compliance with company 
policies and DOT regulations.  


Working closely with the Head of Team, the Operations Manager serves as the key link between strategic 
goals and field execution, monitoring performance, improving workflows, and ensuring consistent 
service quality across all branches.  


Key Responsibilities 
1. Lane & Capacity Management 
• Lead daily operations of assigned OTR lanes, including load planning, driver assignment, load 
execution, and exception management. 
• Develop weekly operational plans to maximize tractor/trailer utilization and manage dwell, 
empty miles, on-time pickup/delivery, and network balance. 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, shippers, and consignees to ensure 
service reliability and proactive recovery from disruptions. 
2. Team Management  
• Lead, mentor, and develop dispatchers, operations specialists, and driver support staff.  
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching, and implement development plans.  
• Partner with HR to recruit, onboard, and train new operations and dispatch staff.  
• Maintain clear communication channels between dispatch, safety, and accounting departments. 
• Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.  
3. Operational Process Development 
• Build, document, and continuously improve SOPs for OTR dispatch, driver assignment, pre
planning, recovery protocols, documentation, billing, and contingency planning. 
• Implement and administer TMS and telematics systems (Motive), ensuring accurate load 
assignments, HOS compliance, DVIR, fuel tracking, and performance monitoring. 
• Standardize billing and document workflows; ensure invoice accuracy, required shipment details 
(BOL, shipment ID, charges), and achievement of DSO targets. 
4. Regulatory Compliance & Safety 
• Ensure full compliance with FMCSA regulations, including CDL validity, medical certifications, DQ 
files, and driver training requirements. 
• Oversee adherence to Hours of Service (HOS), ELD mandates, and safety protocols; coach drivers 
on camera events, violations, and incident reporting. 
• Partner with the Safety Department on training, accident reporting, investigations, and risk
mitigation initiatives to maintain a strong CSA profile. 
5. Administrative & Financial Control  
• Review and approve driver settlements, detention, and chassis fee reports.  
• Work with Accounting to reconcile invoices, settlements, and customer billing accuracy.  
• Monitor operational expenses and contribute to monthly P&L and KPI reporting.  
• Support cost-saving initiatives such as route optimization, asset utilization, and backhaul 
scheduling.  


Required Qualifications 
• 10+ years of experience in transportation, trucking, or logistics, with at least 5 years managing 
drayage, intermodal or OTR operations. 
• Strong working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, HOS, ELD, DVIR, and OTR equipment 
specifications. 
• Experience with TMS and telematics platforms (Motive preferred). 
• Advanced ability to plan networks, manage utilization, balance headhaul/backhaul freight, and 
improve route profitability. 
• Proficiency in Excel and analytical tools; familiarity with building KPI dashboards. 
• Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead and 
hold teams accountable. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related discipline preferred (equivalent 
experience considered).

• Ability to balance driver satisfaction, customer service reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance 
requirements. 
• Calm and decisive under pressure, with experience managing high-risk interruptions such as 
weather delays, breakdowns, or customer issues. 
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills (Finance, HR, Safety, Sales).
