The successful candidate should be able to commute to the Milton DC 5 days a week.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Transportation this position assists in improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transportation equipment by developing and refining systems and processes for maintenance and vehicle costs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preserves the GFS culture, including maintaining open and direct relationships between employees and leadership.

  • Manages and tracks all vehicle registrations, licensing, and permit renewals to ensure legal compliance for the entire fleet.

  • Implements and oversees rigorous fleet maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Develops and monitors fuel management programs, including card services and consumption analysis, to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Coordinates the processing of accident reports, manages insurance claims, and collaborates with safety teams to conduct post-accident reviews.

Additional Fleet Management Responsibilities:

  • Clarifies and confirms customer requests, offers options that meet both customer and company needs, and follows through on requests.

  • Assists in the preparation of an annual distribution budget, monitors the budget on a monthly basis, and identifies variances in actual costs versus budgeted costs and identifies methods for reducing costs.

  • Negotiates equipment lease, purchase, maintenance agreements, as well as third party service

  • Provides leadership, development and coaching to the staff modeling the Cornerstone values of Gordon Food Service

  • Adheres to all GFS Canada policies and procedures including all health & safety regulations

  • Assesses staffing requirements and recruits all levels of staff in conjunction with Human Resources, handles disciplinary problems by investigating the problem with all parties involved, following positive discipline procedures, identifies and implements methods for recognizing staff, and determines long-term skill requirements for the department while developing staff accordingly.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.

  • Ability to collaborate interdepartmentally.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to identify and manage priorities and follow through on tasks from start to finish

  • Passionate team player and strong leader with the ability to foster a positive high performing team environment promoting GFS Cornerstone Values.

  • Proven ability to create and measure key performance indicators

  • Thinking and decision-making skills with the ability to think strategically, analyze, understand the business and solve problems

  • High level of personal integrity, strong work ethic and attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Google Platform

  • Familiarity with shipment options, legal issues, government regulations, industry trends, shipping documents and safety procedures

  • Five years experience managing a fleet department in a private, competitive company combined with two - three years operations experience in material handling.
