Welcome to Love's! Our Fuel Accounting team is looking for a Fuel Staff Accountant I to maintain the Fuel Smart accounting system by reporting daily and month-to-date fuel margins in the Daily Flash report.Analyze and audit fuel deliveries nationwide as required to ensure data accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with fuel specialists, various departments, stores, and external companies to gather information necessary for verifying fuel load data. Provide support as needed to uphold accurate fuel inventory records and achieve invoice reconciliation objectives.
Job Functions:
  • Make independent decisions and recommendations regarding journal entries, reconciliations and inventory analysis
  • Use discretion and independent judgement in developing enhancements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
  • Enhance efficiencies through independent analysis or auditing of control procedures.
  • Identify and assess potential opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with peers to implement process improvements.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from management and coworkers.
  • Prepare and analyze relevant daily and monthly reports for management and operations in a timely fashion.
  • Audit and distribute Daily Flash report
  • Fuel pricing & margin analysis
  • Review detail on fuel loads from stores and verify its accuracy
  • Add new store, product, fuel terminal, carrier, and other data to Fuel Smart database as needed.
  • Add new tax liabilities and maintain existing liabilities for changes in rates in Fuel Smart database.
  • Communicate with various internal departments and outside contacts to obtain all necessary detail needed to ensure data on fuel loads is accurate
  • Assist in period closing procedures for all retail fuel
  • Researching and answering fuel margin P&L questions
  • Completes work under direct supervision
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 0-1 years of accounting, accounts payable, or inventory experience preferred

Skills:
    • Hard skills:
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office, primarily Excel
      • Knowledge of Fuel Smart and SAP is an advantage
    • Soft Skills:
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Detail-oriented
      • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
      • Self-motivated
      • Team player

Typical Physical Demands:
    • Possible evening and/or weekend work.
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
