Position Description
The Power Distribution Standards Engineer will work alongside project execution engineering, maintenance, GIS, operations/field crews, purchasing, and estimating teams to establish technical standards and operational procedures in relation to power substation and distribution systems. The engineer will create new standards and process as well as provide updates and oversite of existing standards and processes. The role will be heavily engaged across the company for cross team collaboration and coordination while also providing technical input and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Possess and maintain broad and in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to utility power distribution systems.
  • Update existing and develop new standards and requirements for distribution systems and substations.
  • Standardize and organize calculations, design guides, and design tools and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the GIS team for tracking and cataloging CLP owned distribution assets across the US.
  • Provide technical input to naming and numbering conventions on assets and the proper meta-data to be tracked for each asset.
  • Work with the engineering director to establish procedures and protocols for changes to standards.
  • Be the technical go-to resource for construction and operational standards.
  • Keep up to date with utility industry standards and codes and incorporate into CLPs standards and guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of power system protection and relaying schemes in order to facilitate standardization of the schemes.
  • Understand electrical system models and development to establish modeling guidelines and report evaluations.
  • Develop electrical specifications for major electrical apparatus.
  • Work with the engineering director to develop and maintain the Engineering and Design Guide, providing guidance to the engineering execution teams.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Supervisors and other engineers to develop the best path forward from multiple input sources.
  • Obtain root cause analysis information and transform into positive updates to specifications and standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance and support to help them grow in their professional careers.
  • Collaborate with vendors on new and emerging technologies.

Skills | Knowledge | Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from accredited university required.
  • 8+ years working experience in electrical utility industry.
  • Expert knowledge with medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system required.
  • Experienced in specifications, codes, and construction standards for various piece of equipment and construction practices.
  • PE License preferred.
  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work with various partners from start to finish.
  • Collaboration and taking feedback from multiple sources and providing the best recommendation.

Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position will lead a small team in relation to company specifications and standards.

Work Authorization | Security Clearance:
  • You must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.

Travel:
  • Travel between job sites expected with 20-30% overnight travel expected.

Compensation | Benefits:
  • We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, 401k with company contribution, paid time off and paid holidays.
  • Salary range: $124,000-$167,000/annual based on experience plus eligible to participate in Short Term Incentive Plan.
    • We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
