Job description

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications
Fiber SplicerSammons Construction is seeking an experienced Fiber Splicer to join our underground construction team. This role is responsible for performing fiber optic splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance within underground fiber networks. The ideal candidate has strong experience in OSP (Outside Plant) environments, is safety-focused, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, reliable work.Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fusion splicing on single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) fiber optic cable, including ribbon and loose tube fiber
  • Conduct splicing in underground environments, including handholes, vaults, manholes, and enclosures
  • Read and interpret fiber prints, splice schematics, and construction drawings
  • Perform fiber testing and certification using OTDR, power meter, and light source equipment
  • Troubleshoot fiber issues, perform fault isolation, and complete necessary repairs
  • Ensure proper labeling, fiber mapping, and as-built documentation are accurate and up to date
  • Maintain and organize splice records and network documentation
  • Coordinate with construction crews, supervisors, and project managers to meet project timelines
  • Maintain splicing tools, equipment, and company vehicles in good working condition
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and company safety policies
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in fiber optic splicing (OSP/underground preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of underground fiber systems, splice closures, and enclosures
  • Experience working in handholes, vaults, manholes, and confined spaces
  • Proficient with OTDR testing, fiber certification, and dB loss analysis
  • Ability to read and interpret fiber network designs and construction prints
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality assurance and safety compliance
