Job Summary

The FTTH Construction Manager oversees all field construction activities for fiber-to-the-home installation projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards. This role manages subcontractors, tracks daily field progress, supports forecasting, resolves issues, and oversees inventory and materials. The FTTH Construction Manager acts as the key link between project planning and field execution.

This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role suited to someone with a background in underground construction, utilities, telecommunications, or fiber deployment, and who's comfortable working in a startup environment where processes are still being built.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Manage fiber construction projects end-to-end through third-party vendors
  • Sequence work orders logically, identifying and mitigating risks
  • Oversee permitting, licensing, and regulatory approvals to ensure vendor deliverables meet quality and schedule requirements
  • Manage construction schedules, budgets, materials procurement, and subcontractor performance
  • Conduct constructability reviews and maintain clear project tracking and status reporting
  • Resolve onsite issues and ensure compliance with construction standards
  • Provide construction expertise and leadership, including presenting to project stakeholders

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure construction activities comply with specifications, safety standards, permits, and regulations
  • Support enforcement of company safety policies and OSHA requirements
  • Establish standardized methods, benchmarks, and performance metrics across crews and subcontractors
  • Oversee delivery from contract award through permitting, construction, closeout, and handoff
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce rework, downtime, and cost overruns

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Use data to assess project performance and implement improvements

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)

Experience:

  • 5+ years overseeing fiber optic construction projects through subcontractors and vendors
  • Proven experience managing field execution, including daily progress tracking, schedule adherence, quality control, and issue resolution
  • Ability to coordinate with project managers, engineers, permitting teams, inspectors, and utility owners
  • Hands-on subcontractor management experience, including work sequencing, productivity monitoring, escalation, and corrective action, without formal people-management authority

Preferred Background:

  • FTTH construction experience
  • Microtrenching experience
  • ROW/permitting knowledge
  • Familiarity with GO95/GO128/NESC/NEC/OSHA standards
  • High desert market experience
  • Local vendor relationships
  • Strong vendor management approach
  • Experience with project tracking tools
