The Metro Technical Operations team is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of our fiber optic and wireless networks as well as the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and small business customers on our network.
Role Description
As our Special Projects Manager, Technical Operations, you will support deployment, operations, installations and maintenance of a fiber optic network for residential and business customers throughout the Central Region that includes Omaha, Des Moines and Kansas City. In your role, you will report to the Head of Metro Technical Operations and flex within the region to meet the needs of the business, plugging into areas where needs are critical, and then rapidly moving onto new areas of need as the business evolves. As a part of your development, you may rotate to other regions and take on new responsibilities. Your ability to travel and or take on temporary duty assignments is a must.
We are seeking a dynamic, adaptable, proactive, performance driven individual to execute complex, on-the-ground projects aimed at improving internet access, speed, and customer experience in the community. This evolving role requires a problem-solving mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and a resilient, positive approach to challenges, alongside substantial knowledge of our industry and willingness to learn much more. An entrepreneurial spirit, a versatile skill set, a flexible approach, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges as the role evolves and changes is critical.
In this role, you'll:
- Support the deployment and operation of GFiber's FTTH build in the region by assisting the Head of Metro Technical Operations in leading all Deployment and Operational team members within a metropolitan area.
- Ensure alignment between various parts of the customer network deployment from design to service delivery, guaranteeing the best local network is designed, built, and maintained with speed and budget.
- Coordinate with city management (city officials, jurisdictional authorities and utility representatives) to ensure business targets are met.
- Lead and manage proposals, bids, scope definition, engineering design cycles and design review and approvals for a FTTH network, specifically, the selection of vendors.
At a minimum we'd like you to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience with fiber network deployments, outside and inside plant fiber infrastructure.
- 7 years of leadership experience leading teams and managing vendors.
- 7 years of experience with budgeting, forecasting costs, project reporting, capacity planning, quality assurance, equipment turn-up, testing and acceptance.
It's preferred if you have:
- MBA or Master's degree in Technology.
- 10 years of relevant industry experience, with technical and people management experience.
- Experience developing requests for proposals (RFPs), scheduling projects, cost engineering, budgeting and forecasting costs, reporting project status and costs, procurement and consulting with contractors, and vendors.
- Experience with inside (ISP) and outside (OSP) plant fiber optic network infrastructure, and engineering design and construction.
- Experience with network drawings, route maps and scopes of work, interpreting fiber test results and auditing projects for compliance with scopes of work.
- Experience in operational improvement, process/workflow development, and managing complex cross-functional projects.
