Loader Operator

General Summary

The Loader Operator is responsible for loading the vendor trucks and the Inter-Company haul trucks with specified amount and type of aggregate. This role will also maintain stockpiles, ensuring they are properly mixed and ensuring that the asphalt and concrete plants are loaded with uncontaminated material. Routine duties are performed with minimal supervision; standard practices or procedures allow the employee to proceed alone at routine work; occasional check of work while in progress; work is reviewed upon completion. Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks assigned. The working hours will fluctuate with the production goals and customer sales on a daily basis. There is no normal set schedule. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or Manager Safety & Health.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22.
  • Responsible for the operation of front-end loader to lift and transport raw material onto vendor and Inter-Company Haul trucks.
  • Must be familiar with different stockpiles and must maintain raw materials in each.
  • Verify and maintain storage of aggregate amount in stockpiles.
  • Maintain the daily cleanliness of the loader.
  • Perform daily pre-shifts on the loader and complete the pre-shift forms.
  • Fuel and grease the loader daily.
  • Receives and maintains recycled incoming materials and stockpiles.
  • Expeditiously loads out trucks needing aggregates and recycled aggregates as needed.
  • Receives and maintains stockpiles of virgin aggregates for RMC and HMA plants and coordinates with Supervisors on inventories and demand.
  • Accurately loads production facilities with materials and avoids running plants out of materials while in operation.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, but not required. One (1) to two (2) years of related experience required. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend, in English, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of dollars and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Handles multiple tasks simultaneously.
