Frontend Game Developer information

What are some typical challenges faced by Frontend Game Developers when optimizing games for different devices and browsers?

Frontend Game Developers often encounter challenges related to ensuring smooth performance and consistent visuals across a wide range of devices and browsers. This can involve addressing issues such as varying screen resolutions, hardware capabilities, and compatibility with different web technologies. Developers frequently need to implement responsive design, optimize assets for fast loading, and troubleshoot platform-specific bugs. Collaborating closely with backend developers, designers, and QA testers is essential to deliver a seamless gaming experience for all users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Frontend Game Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Frontend Game Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and familiarity with game engines or libraries such as Phaser, Unity, or Three.js, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Experience with version control systems like Git and graphics tools, as well as knowledge of performance optimization techniques, are typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and translating ideas into engaging gameplay. These competencies ensure the delivery of high-quality, interactive game experiences that meet user expectations and industry standards.

Job description

Job Overview

Reporting to the VP of Interactive Systems, the Technical Project Manager is the operational backbone of the AGS Interactive engineering organization. This role owns the delivery lifecycle across four interconnected disciplines, DevOps, Game Supported Features, Backend/Frontend Development, and QA, ensuring that roadmap commitments translate into reliable, on-time releases in a regulated iGaming environment. The ideal candidate has enough technical depth to earn credibility with engineers, enough process rigor to hold a complex multi-team portfolio together, and enough communication skills to keep leadership and stakeholders aligned without constant escalation. This role will also own the RoadMap and time tracking keeping each deliverable on time.

Responsibilities

Roadmap & Planning

  • Partner with the VP of Interactive Systems, Systems Architect and engineering leads to build and maintain the Interactive engineering roadmap across platform, game, and infrastructure workstreams.
  • Own quarterly planning cycles including capacity modeling, cross-team dependency mapping, and milestone definition across DevOps, Platform, Game Dev, and QA.
  • Assessing technical feasibility of roadmap commitments in collaboration with Platform and DevOps leads, surfacing conflicts between business priorities and engineering capacity before they become delivery misses.
  • Maintain a rolling 90-day delivery view with clearly defined owners, milestones, and risk flags visible to leadership.
  • Maintain communication and roadmap status reports  with remote teams in Europe and India.

Requirements & Scoping

  • Lead requirements gathering across business stakeholders, operators, and internal engineering teams, translating product and compliance needs into clearly defined technical specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Own scope definition and change control, ensuring all scope changes are documented, assessed for impact, and approved before work begins.
  • Work with architects, platform leads, and game developers to decompose initiatives into deliverable work with realistic effort estimates.
  • Ensure requirements traceability from business objective through design, development, QA sign-off, and regulated market deployment.

Cross-Team Execution

  • Serve as the coordination layer between Game Dev, Platform and QA, ensuring test plans, regression cycles, and certification timelines are built into delivery schedules from the start.
  • Coordinate with DevOps and Platform teams on environment readiness, deployment windows, and infrastructure dependencies that affect game and feature delivery
  • Identify, track, and actively mitigate risks and blockers — escalating with recommended solutions, not just status updates.
  • Lead retrospectives across teams and drive process improvements that measurably reduce delivery friction between Platform, Game Dev, and QA.
  • Maintain project documentation including roadmaps, decision logs, risk registers, and change logs in Jira, Smartsheets and Confluence

Skills/Requirements

  • 4+ years in a Technical Project Manager, Engineering Program Manager, or equivalent role managing cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated experience owning engineering roadmaps and delivery plans — not just tracking tasks against someone else's plan.
  • Technical foundation sufficient to engage credibly with DevOps, platform, and software engineering teams — prior hands-on engineering, infrastructure, or QA experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating delivery across multiple engineering disciplines simultaneously (e.g., platform/infrastructure, application development, and QA)
  • Proven ability to gather and document technical requirements from both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing projects with regulated delivery requirements or compliance-gated release cycles.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure concepts, and environment management as they relate to release coordination.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and related project tracking tooling.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.

Pluses

  • PMI Certification and Agile Scrum Certification preferred .
  • PMI-PMP, PMI-ACP, Agile CSM/CSPO, and/or SAFe Practitioner certifications.
  • Experience working in regulated industries.
  • Casino gaming experience.
  • Experience with projects that involve both software and cloud development components
  • Experience working with Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, and SharePoint

Note: All offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screen
