Position Overview

Full Stack Developer with Front-End Focus

We are looking for someone who can fill a key role in our development process, developing primarily client-side features for the Smashwords storefront.

You will be working on a small team and will be expected to manage your time effectively without strong oversight but with regular contact from the CTO and

  • other developers as needed.
  • Responsibilities
  • Transition existing features from servergenerated html to interactive clientrendered user interfaces
  • Implement new features for a bookstore’s storefront
  • Establish clarity on design and implementation needs
  • Write and maintain unit tests and end to end tests for features.
  • Actively collaborate with other developers using cloudbased tools such as Slack, Git, and Gerrit
  • Advocate for development best practices and understanding broader code base ramifications
  • Provide thoughtful code reviews where your areas of expertise interact
  • with other developers

    Required Experience
  • Computer Science Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Candidates should have product sense and demonstrate knowledge of usercentered design methodologies and usability principles. The ideal candidate approaches feature design by understanding customer goals and tasks before considering implementation.
  • Preferred candidates would have significant expertise in Javascript, Typescript, and React or similar statically typed compiled frontend Javascriptbased languages like Dart, and and willingness to learn.
  • Solid experience with at least one backend languages such as Go,
  • Python, Ruby, or PHP. We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates willingness to learn backend development in Go.

  • Experience with Git or similar modern version control systems.
  • Frontend Unit testing using modern tools such as Jest, Jasmine, Storybook, or similar.
  • Additional Desired Skills
  • 4+ years professional development experience with at least 3 of those as a full stack or frontend developer
  • Comfortable working in Linux operating system environment with docker containers
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
