Job description

Basalite Building Products, LLC is one of the largest manufacturers of concrete masonry products in the Western United States. Product lines include structural block, interlocking paving stones, engineered wall systems, retaining walls, ornamental and garden products, and a full range of sack goods. Car Shop Mechanic Starting at $27.00 - $30.00 DOE

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, this position supports the maintenance department in all areas of the Paver, Block, Sack and all areas of the yard departments; and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Maintaining all plant equipment.
  • Use a variety of power and hand tools to perform job functions.
  • Controls all hazardous energy by means of lock-out tag-out procedures for machines/equipment.
  • Order necessary parts, tools, and equipment in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment and observes best practices in all maintenance activities and adheres to all safe work practices and policies.
  • Cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
  • Completes preventative maintenance and housekeeping practices for all related equipment.
  • Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts.
  • Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Works with operators and supervisors to solve problems with machinery.
  • Able to repair and replace mechanical parts such as chains, belts, bearing, rollers rubber skirts gears, and fans with proper instructions.
  • Able to troubleshoot and make necessary repairs.
  • Able to properly operate band saws, drills, drill presses, grinders, and other shop tools as needed.
  • Able to rig equipment utilizing wire ropes, chains, slings, jacks, bolts, and turnbuckles used with overhead hoist and other hoisting equipment.
  • Able to work from elevated heights using ladders, mezzanines, and aerial lifts.
  • Able to operate industrial forklifts and related attachments.
  • Ability to operate Mobile elevating work platforms
    • Group A (Scissor Lift)
    • Group B (Aerial Boom Lift)
  • Ability to wear personal fall arrest system.
  • Ability to use respiratory protective equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to properly use an Oxygen/acetylene torch.
  • Ability to arc weld in various positions and types of joints.
  • Ability to make minor wiring repairs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot simple electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to layout and fabricate from drawings.
  • Able to rebuild cylinders and hydraulic valves.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the safety requirements for performing maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Driver license is required to attend trainings off site and occasionally pick up parts.
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Three years welding and machinery maintenance experience required.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electricity required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, customers and superiors.
  • Requires ability to assists with calculations, projections and applications for fabrication and layout.
  • Ability to operate forklift, front-end loader, drill press, welder, angle grinders, digital volt meters and any other equipment required to perform duties.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Demonstrated mechanical and basic electrical aptitude.
  • Familiar with standard maintenance procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, and proper safety techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and perform all required training, written, and verbal instructions.
  • Good verbal and/or written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.
