What is a frontend developer?

Frontend Developers are professionals who design and build the user-facing parts of websites and web applications. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly in their browsers. Frontend Developers work closely with designers and backend developers to ensure a seamless and responsive user experience across different devices and platforms. Their role often includes optimizing website performance, ensuring accessibility, and maintaining code quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Frontend Developer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), responsive design tools, and web performance optimization techniques is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities help you build intuitive, user-friendly interfaces and collaborate effectively with design and backend teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality, interactive web applications that meet user and business needs.

How do frontend developers collaborate with designers and backend teams during a project?

Frontend Developers regularly work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure that visual elements are accurately translated into interactive web pages and applications. They also coordinate with backend developers to integrate APIs and manage data flow between the server and the user interface. Regular meetings, code reviews, and collaborative tools like version control systems help streamline communication and maintain consistency across the project. This teamwork is essential to deliver a cohesive and high-performing end product.

Since 2011, our mission hasn’t changed — we’re here to stop breaches, and we’ve redefined modern security with the world’s most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day and this traffic is growing daily. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We’re also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. We’re always looking to add talented CrowdStrikers to the team who have limitless passion, a relentless focus on innovation and a fanatical commitment to our customers, our community and each other. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a UI engineer to join our team and help build the nextgen data visualization  framework for our new console. It’s an exciting opportunity to help create engaging data-driven experiences that ultimately help our users visualize patterns and navigate threats in their environment. It’s a role that will collaborate closely with product design and UI engineering. If you are passionate about working with large amounts of data and chart visualizations, this role is perfect for you.

What You'll Do:
  • Contribute to front-end features and components under guidance from senior engineers.

  • Implement data visualization components using established patterns and libraries.

  • Participate in the code review process for your own code and that of your fellow UI Engineers.

  • Participate in technical discussions and provide input on implementation approaches.

  • Identify opportunities for code improvements and discuss with team leads.

  • Ensure code quality is maintained by writing by unit, integration and end-to-end tests.

  • Follow established coding standards and architectural patterns.

  • Support maintenance and bug fixes for existing applications.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams such as UX designers, QA engineers, Product Managers, Data/API engineers, and others.

  • Continually learn about the ever-evolving challenges and complexities of the cybersecurity industry as well as front-end engineering.

What You'll Need:

  • Experience with front-end engineering fundamentals (HTML, CSS, Javascript, RESTful API basics, Node/NPM).

  • Familiarity with modern JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.

  • Experience with at least one front end framework such as Lit, Ember, React, Angular, or similar.

  • Basic understanding of responsive UI design principles.

  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and basic development workflows.

  • Willingness to learn data fetching and state management libraries.

  • Interest in learning accessibility (a11y) best practices and tools.

  • Exposure to build tools and package managers.

  • Good collaboration and communication skills in verbal and written formats.

  • Be an advocate for UX consistency, accessibility and empathy for the end user.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience with advanced front-end tools (Tailwind, Webpack, GraphQL).

  • Experience with front end data-mocking services and tools.

  • Experience with data visualization libraries such as amCharts, HighCharts, or similar.

  • Experience working with full featured data grid libraries such as AG Grid or others to build highly interactive, data intensive UIs.

  • Understanding of building scalable UI design systems using atomic design principles

  • Understanding of Cloud Technologies and end to end delivery of data intensive SaaS products.

  • Knowledge of CI/CD best practices and tools.

  • Understanding of internationalization (i18n).

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services.

  • Prior experience in cybersecurity.
