What is a frontend developer government?

Frontend Developer Government jobs involve designing and implementing user interfaces for government websites and applications. These professionals ensure that digital services provided by government agencies are accessible, user-friendly, and compliant with relevant standards and regulations. They typically work with technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various frameworks, collaborating with designers, backend developers, and stakeholders to deliver secure and efficient digital solutions for the public sector.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend developer government?

To thrive as a Frontend Developer in government, you need a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and accessibility standards, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems such as Git, and compliance with government digital service guidelines are typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you navigate collaborative projects and address diverse user needs. Projects must comply with standards like WCAG for accessibility and follow government-mandated security protocols, which can introduce additional testing and development steps. Collaboration is typically cross-functional, involving policy experts, backend developers, and legal teams to ensure the final product meets all regulatory guidelines. These factors can extend timelines but also provide opportunities to develop expertise in high-impact, large-scale public service platforms.

Lead Software Engineer (AI-augmented)

Gen Digital

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Job description

We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer who can guide and grow a small team of frontend engineers while remaining a hands-on, high-output individual contributor. This role is not about producing baseline code quickly. AI can do that. It's about engineering judgment, clear direction, technical quality, and team leverage.
You will partner closely with a Product Lead (and design, data, and backend partners) to shape scope, define milestones, and break work into well-scoped tasks that can be delivered predictably. You'll set expectations around quality, testing, and production readiness-especially in fast-moving, AI-assisted development environments.
Gen is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusivity. We base employment decisions on merit, experience, and business needs, without considering race, color, national origin, age, religion, sex, pregnancy, genetic information, disability, medical condition, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, military or veteran status, or other unlawful factors. We consider individuals with arrest and conviction records and do not discriminate against employees for discussing their own pay or that of other employees or applicants. Learn more about pay transparency.
To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.
