Frontend Contract information

What is a frontend contract?

A Frontend Contract typically refers to a temporary or project-based position focused on building and maintaining the user-facing parts of websites or web applications. Frontend contractors use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Angular, or Vue.js) to create interactive and responsive user interfaces. These roles are usually hired on a contract basis, meaning the employment is for a fixed term or until specific project goals are completed, rather than being a permanent employee. Frontend contractors often work with design teams and backend developers to ensure seamless integration and optimal user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend contractor?

To thrive as a Frontend Contractor, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks like React or Vue, usually backed by proven project experience or a relevant degree. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility is essential. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills help you collaborate with teams and meet client deadlines. These competencies ensure you can deliver high-quality, user-friendly interfaces that align with client requirements and industry standards.

How does working as a frontend contract developer typically impact collaboration with product and design teams?

As a Frontend Contract developer, you’ll often be integrated into cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with product managers and designers to translate project requirements and visual mockups into functional user interfaces. While contract roles may have a defined project scope and timeline, regular communication through stand-ups, reviews, and feedback sessions is crucial to ensure alignment with evolving project needs. Being proactive in clarifying requirements and suggesting technical solutions can help foster strong working relationships and ensure project success, even within a limited contract period.

What is the difference between Frontend Contract vs Frontend Developer?

AspectFrontend ContractFrontend Developer
CredentialsTypically requires a portfolio, experience, and sometimes specific certificationsRequires similar skills, often with formal education or certifications in web development

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our frontend team and play a critical role in building the platform that will define CaseGuard's next chapter.
You will design and build a highly performant, sophisticated frontend capable of handling complex media redaction directly in the browser. This role involves more than just building forms; you will be responsible for the architecture that supports real-time collaboration, complex document rendering, and high-stakes video manipulation.
This role is expected to operate with a high degree of ownership. You will take responsibility for major frontend features and drive them end-to-end from design through production with minimal oversight. Beyond writing excellent code, you will contribute to engineering standards, influence frontend architecture, and help scale both the system and the team.
What You Will Do
  • Build scalable, maintainable frontend applications using Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
  • Implement advanced rendering and manipulation logic for PDF documents and video within the browser.
  • Utilize WebGL and Canvas to ensure smooth, performant interactions for redaction tools.
  • Build and maintain real-time features using WebSockets and SignalR to support concurrent multi-user workflows.
  • Work closely with backend engineers to consume REST APIs, defining contracts that ensure efficient data flow and optimal UX.
  • Manage frontend deployments on AWS and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, reliable delivery.
  • Identify and resolve frontend bottlenecks (rendering lag, memory leaks, bundle size) to ensure a seamless user experience under heavy load.
Ownership & Execution
  • Turn ambiguous product requirements into well-defined technical tasks and execution plans.
  • Take full ownership of major frontend domains, driving them from initial design through to production deployment.
  • Make independent technical decisions regarding frontend state management, component architecture, and styling patterns.
  • Drive frontend decisions in cross-functional work, ensuring the system design is robust and provides the best possible user experience.
  • Be accountable for the reliability, performance, and accessibility of the features you ship.
Team Contribution
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and uphold high engineering standards for the frontend guild.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to long-term frontend roadmap decisions.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to support their technical growth.
  • Contribute to hiring by reviewing technical assessments and interviewing prospective candidates.
Qualifications (Required)
  • 6+ years of experience owning and delivering complex frontend applications or major features end-to-end.
  • Strong proficiency in React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
  • Deep understanding of modern frontend architecture, state management, and hooks.
  • Solid experience working with REST APIs and real-time communication via WebSockets or SignalR.
  • Practical experience working with WebGL, HTML5 Canvas, or complex browser-based document/video manipulation.
  • Professional experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS deployment strategies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across a hybrid team.
Qualifications (Preferred)
  • Experience building heavy, data-intensive web applications (e.g., editors, design tools, or analytical Dashboards).
  • Knowledge of frontend security best practices (CSPRNG, XSS prevention, secure storage).
  • Experience with AWS services relevant to frontend/custom Next.js hosting (CloudFront, S3, ECS).
  • Familiarity with Tailwind CSS or advanced CSS-in-JS libraries.
What We Offer:
  • Meaningful equity - we believe in sharing ownership with the people who build the company
  • Competitive base salary alongside an equity-heavy compensation package
  • Hybrid working - flexibility to work remotely with regular in-person collaboration
  • Direct influence over architecture, engineering culture, and the technical roadmap
  • Opportunity to take ownership of critical backend domains in a growing cloud platform
  • A small, high-trust team that moves fast, values craftsmanship, and ships quality software
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401K
  • Paid Vacation
  • Ten paid holidays per year
  • Friendly and Learning environment

Salary+ Equity Range: $120,000 to $200,000
