What is a front loader operator?

Front Loader Operators are skilled workers who operate heavy machinery known as front-end loaders. These machines are used to move materials such as soil, gravel, sand, and debris at construction sites, mines, quarries, and other similar locations. Operators are responsible for safely maneuvering the loader, performing routine equipment checks, and ensuring materials are loaded and transported efficiently. They must have good hand-eye coordination, attention to safety protocols, and often require specialized training or certification. Front Loader Operators play a critical role in supporting construction and earth-moving projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front loader operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Front Loader Operator, you need strong mechanical aptitude, spatial awareness, and experience or certification in operating heavy machinery. Familiarity with equipment like front-end loaders, safety protocols, and sometimes OSHA certification or a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) are typically required. Attention to detail, communication, and teamwork are crucial soft skills that help ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently. These skills and qualifications are essential to maintain worksite safety, optimize productivity, and prevent costly accidents or equipment damage.

What are some common safety challenges faced by front loader operators, and how are they typically addressed on the job?

Front Loader Operators often work in environments with heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and limited visibility, which can present significant safety challenges. To address these risks, operators are usually required to follow strict safety protocols, such as conducting pre-operation equipment inspections, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and adhering to site-specific traffic patterns. Regular safety training and clear communication with ground personnel are also crucial to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment. Employers typically provide ongoing training and emphasize a safety-first culture to support operators in minimizing workplace hazards.

We're looking for a dependable, hardworking team member to join our Elko, Nevada branch.

Position Summary

Industrial Supply is looking for a Warehouse & Customer Service Associate who enjoys staying busy, working with customers, and taking on a variety of responsibilities.

This is a full-time position supporting the day-to-day operations of our Elko branch. You'll work throughout the branch-receiving and stocking inventory, picking and packing customer orders, assisting customers at the front counter, keeping the warehouse organized, and making local deliveries when needed.

This is a great opportunity for someone who likes a hands-on job with variety. Some of your day may be spent helping customers, some working in the warehouse, and some making deliveries. Most importantly, you'll be part of a local team working together to take care of our customers.

What You'll Do Warehouse & Inventory
  • Receive incoming shipments and unload products safely.
  • Verify incoming products and quantities against purchase orders and other documentation.
  • Stock and organize inventory in the appropriate warehouse locations.
  • Pick products accurately to fulfill customer orders.
  • Pack, label, and stage orders for customer pickup or delivery.
  • Review sales orders, work orders, shipping documents, and other paperwork to ensure the correct products are being handled.
  • Help maintain accurate and organized inventory.
  • Keep warehouse shelves, racks, bins, and staging areas clean and organized.
  • Assist with loading and unloading products and pallets.
Customer Service
  • Greet and assist walk-in customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Help customers with orders, product pickups, and general questions.
  • Work with other branch team members to make sure customer needs are handled quickly and accurately.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding orders and deliveries.
  • Help create the dependable, responsive service Industrial Supply customers expect.
Local Deliveries
  • Make local customer deliveries when needed.
  • Load and secure customer orders for safe transportation.
  • Verify orders before leaving the branch to help ensure delivery accuracy.
  • Deliver products according to customer instructions and company procedures.
  • Provide professional, courteous service when interacting with customers.
  • Perform routine vehicle checks and help keep company vehicles clean, safe, and well maintained.
  • Follow applicable driving, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Support the Branch

We're a team, so you'll also help wherever needed to keep the Elko branch running smoothly. That may include assisting coworkers, maintaining the warehouse, helping with customer orders, or taking on special projects assigned by the Branch Customer Service Lead.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Dependable and committed to showing up ready to work.
  • Friendly and comfortable interacting with customers.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to getting orders right.
  • Able to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
  • Comfortable working independently without constant supervision.
  • Willing to learn and take on different responsibilities.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and stay productive throughout the workday.
  • A team player who is willing to jump in and help when needed.
  • Safety-minded when working in the warehouse and operating company vehicles.
Helpful, But Not Required
  • Previous warehouse experience, including receiving, stocking, picking, or packing.
  • Customer service or counter sales experience.
  • Experience in industrial supply, construction supply, automotive parts, distribution, retail, or a related environment.
  • Delivery driving experience involving customer interaction.
  • Familiarity with sales or order-processing systems.

Don't have industrial distribution experience? We still encourage you to apply. If you're dependable, willing to learn, comfortable working with customers, and take pride in doing accurate work, we'd like to hear from you.

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, and move products.
  • Safely move products throughout a warehouse environment.
  • Perform warehouse responsibilities in a smaller branch setting.
  • Safely and legally operate a company delivery vehicle when making customer deliveries.
Why Join Industrial Supply?

At Industrial Supply, you won't be limited to doing one thing all day. You'll have the opportunity to learn different parts of the branch, interact directly with customers, and become someone your coworkers and customers can count on.

For 110 years, our success has been built by people who work hard, support their teammates, and take care of customers. We're looking for someone who wants to continue that tradition with our Elko team.
