Department: Parks Reports to: Designated Supervisor
Summary: Under basic supervision, performs unskilled and semiskilled general labor work in cleaning and maintenance of City parks; operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with all safety regulations and standard procedures.
Essential Functions: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs general labor tasks to maintain safe, attractive, and user-friendly City parks; operates a variety of vehicles and specialized equipment to maintain park facilities, golf courses, grounds, sports fields, playgrounds, and public areas; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Uses specialized tools and power equipment to perform park maintenance tasks, including weed control, mowing, watering, and trimming trees and landscape elements.
- Operates a wide range of vehicles and motorized equipment, including dump trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, material spreaders, plows and scrapers, aerifiers, man lifts, and front-end loaders.
- Cleans and performs routine maintenance work and adjustments on equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Cleans up trash, debris, and restrooms.
- Repairs and maintains parks and golf course as directed; hauls materials, and transports vehicles and equipment to job sites.
- Maintains truck usage logs, truck inspection forms, maintenance records, and daily trip reports; inspects vehicles at start and end of work day.
- Controls ongoing work projects to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Assists with setup and cleanup for special events; cross-trains in a variety of skills; maintains and operates vehicles and equipment according to Parks department standards.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 6 months of related outdoor work experience.
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
- Federal, state, and City safety rules and regulations.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Operation and maintenance methods and standards for parks equipment and specialized vehicles.
- OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
Skill in:
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power and hand tools and equipment.
- Making routine operating adjustments, repairs, and preventive maintenance to assigned equipment.
- Controlling work sites, and establishing effective safety zones.
- Following standard operating and safety procedures.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
