Job description

Position: Poison Control Specialist (Per Diem) Department: 12706 Enterprise Corporate – North Carolina Poison Control Status: Part‐time Schedule: Per diem Hours per week: 0 Responsibilities Utilize clinical and communication skills to obtain a complete exposure history, including patient condition, agents involved, and circumstances, in a timely manner consistent with exposure severity. Provide poison information to patients of all ages (infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly). Use information resources—computerized databases, textbooks, primary medical literature, and consultants—to accurately assess each exposure case. Formulate an appropriate plan of care (patient disposition) by integrating available information. Implement the plan of care based on established guidelines, case specifics, patient priorities, facility resources, and professional judgment, ensuring timely action. Communicate patient information and treatment recommendations to appropriate health‐care facilities and providers. Evalue the appropriateness of assessment and recommendations documented on the case record, adhering to follow‐up procedures. Provide non‐toxicological drug and medical information to callers within the scope of education and experience as time permits. Offer initial crisis intervention to callers with medical or psychiatric issues, including suicidal intent, and refer them to suitable community agencies. Refer non‐medical callers to appropriate agencies in a professional and friendly manner. Physical Requirements The role is primarily performed in the Poison Center with a majority of time spent sitting, using the telephone and computer monitor. Occasionally assist in patient evaluation and treatment in the Emergency Department as requested. Must operate telephone, computer, and recording device equipment safely. Education, Experience, and Certifications Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, an ACPE‐accredited pharmacy school, or a medical school. Registered nurse, registered pharmacist, physician's assistant, or physician (MD or DO) required. Two years of clinical experience preferred; applicable state license to practice required. BLS certification required per policy guidelines. Obtain certification as a Certified Specialist in Poison Information from the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) within three examination periods and recertify as required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and keyboard skills preferred. Pay Range $38.20 – $57.30 per hour, based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training.
