Position Summary
The Director, Risk Management provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization's enterprise risk management, safety, compliance, and insurance functions in alignment with the GSUSA national risk management policies/guidelines. This position is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and monitoring organizational risks and ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures, controls, and resources are in place to protect employees, volunteers, members, visitors, property, financial assets, and the organization’s reputation.
The Director, Risk Management oversees risk management administration, risk assessment and compliance, insurance program management, safety and loss prevention initiatives, and organizational risk advisory support. This position serves as a trusted resource and strategic partner to leadership and departments across the organization, providing guidance on risk-informed decision-making, incident response, regulatory and contractual agreements, and the safe delivery of programs and services.
At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process.

This position is full time with a competitive minimum annualized salary of $79,685.
Essential Job Duties
Lead the organization’s comprehensive risk management program, establishing policies, procedures, systems, and controls that proactively identify and mitigate risks across all areas of operations, and in alignment with GSUSA’s national risk management policies/guidelines.
Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, managers, and departments on risk management, safety, insurance, compliance, liability and risk-informed operational decision-making.
Conduct and coordinate risk assessments for programs, activities, events, facilities, camps, travel, transportation, contracts, partnerships, and other organizational operations, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
Manage Council insurance programs (excluding workers’ compensation and employee benefits), including renewals, coverage analysis, certificates of insurance, broker and carrier relationships, claims administration, and evaluation of ongoing coverage needs.
Coordinate the reporting, investigation, documentation, and response to accidents, injuries, property damage, safety concerns, insurance claims, and other significant incidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up and corrective action.
Monitor and analyze risk, safety, incident, claims, and compliance trends and provide reports and recommendations to leadership to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain safety standards, emergency procedures, business continuity plans, and other resources that support a safe, prepared, and resilient organization.
Review contracts, agreements, leases, and other legal or business documents for risk, liability, insurance, indemnification, and compliance considerations; collaborate with internal stakeholders and legal counsel as appropriate and recommend revisions or risk mitigation strategies.
Partner with leaders and cross-functional teams to integrate risk management and safety considerations into strategic planning, program development, events, facilities, contracts, vendor relationships, and other organizational initiatives.
Develop and deliver risk management, safety, emergency preparedness, incident reporting, and compliance training and resources while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, preparedness, and shared responsibility for managing risk.
Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in, risk management, business administration, insurance, public administration, safety, emergency management, a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, insurance, safety, compliance, loss prevention, or a related field.
Experience developing and administering risk management programs in a complex organization.
Experience interpreting and applying laws, regulations, policies, contracts, and industry standards related to risk and safety.
Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of risk management principles, insurance programs, safety practices, compliance requirements, and loss prevention strategies.
Ability to assess complex situations, identify potential exposures, and develop practical, proportionate mitigation strategies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate data, identify trends, and make sound recommendations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex risk concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of understanding.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and collaborate without relying solely on formal authority.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent and emerging risk matters.
Ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and build a culture of shared accountability for risk management.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other technology used to maintain records, analyze data, prepare reports, and manage risk-related information.
Ability to work independently, under limited direction, exercising judgment and initiative in making decisions within Council operations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
Ability to travel throughout the jurisdiction using personal automobile for work purposes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with occasional travel to organizational facilities, program sites, camps, events, and other locations as needed.
May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call availability in response to significant incidents, emergencies, or organizational events.
May require occasional travel for meetings, training, conferences, site visits, and other organizational business.
Ability to navigate and inspect a variety of organizational environments, including offices, program facilities, outdoor spaces, camps, and event locations.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time operating a computer, including navigating websites, software platforms, spreadsheets and both electronic and paper documents.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer.
Occasionally positions self to maintain files in file cabinets.
May need to move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
The ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
Is required to drive/ operate an automobile.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with occasional travel to organizational facilities, program sites, camps, events, and other locations as needed. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
